Leaking rusty fuel line...

Hey everybody... It's been a while...

My 4Runner's been smelling like gas for a while, and I've kind of blow it off. I've put maybe 500 miles on in the last 6 months, so I wasn't doing anything with it. Anyway, today I noticed a small puddle and took everything apart and found my problem.

I'm leaking from the steel pressure line right where it bends to run along the frame above the brake lines. Does anyone have experience with repairing this spot? I was wondering if cutting it and clamping on fuel injection hose would work, or if I need to seek a replacement steel line.

That has worked for me on the lines to and from my fuel filter. Just make sure you use high pressure fuel line and they make hose clamps especially for fuel line.

It will work short term but it will likely leak elsewhere and you'll have to replace it. I was looking at converting mine to AN fittings and line but haven't been too motivated yet.

You might consider going to the dealer, or checking a discounting dealer on-line for the correct hard line. Once those start going, they can deposit debris internally in the fuel system. There was a gentleman next to me the last time at the local Toyota dealership parts counter looking for the same part. If memory serves me, it was only about $40. For that kind of $, just replace it and be done with it.
My only concern with replacing long lengths of hard line with flexible fuel hose is that the system and hose were not designed for that type of application.

My issue is that my truck isn't likely too long for this world. The body rust is getting out of control, and while the frame is only surface rust, I don't have the money to fix it before it gets worse. At this point my plan is to limp it along for what little I drive it until I can try to get something from down south when money permits.

In 6 years, I've put on only about 25k miles, and only about 3k in the last year. So longevity isn't huge. I just want it to last until I can use it for parts for something in better shape.
