Oh and zstampe, my 4 Runner is an 08. I absolutely agree with what your talking about. I don't want to blind anyone so if I decide to do it, I want to make sure its done right.

Britton, you'll be fine, just do that squirrel finder mod that gaterose mentioned and you wont be blinding anyone. I have yet to get flashed once and my 4runner is lifted 3.5 inches. It's all about aiming them properly and using projectors, which you have.

Made for HID or not, they have a very clean cut off below other drivers eyes. If you're not blinding other drivers, cops aren't pulling you over, and you have better visibility, then what is it about using the stock projectors with HIDs you disagree with?

Well that is your opinion since you don't own a 4runner with factory projectors and I do, I work in public safety and am very conscious as to the mods I do accordingly and don't want to do anything to "blind other drivers" as you claim.

and if you do a thorough search, the stock projectors of a 4runner are not the greatest to throw on a pnp, but an ok start. I've had HIDs in my trucks since 2004, so I know what I'm talking about.

People, you guys get way too personal on this. All I'm saying and many "in the know" will agree with me that putting HIDs in a projector (or reflector which is 10x worse) that are MADE for a halogen light, isn't the correct way to go if you want HID light. It's that simple. The OP asked for some advice, all I'm trying to do is to steer him in the right direction. If you disagree, that is your choice.

I never thought/implied you were "flaming" me (although I feel your defensive response means you think you were).

I was asking why you think the OP should do a retrofit instead. I posted pictures to make my point, you just keep saying that you don't think the '06 projectors are good enough.

No flame. Look, I realize that retros are expensive. If one starts with the OEM projectors, that's fine. If one goes the extra mile and does the squirrel mod, then that means one actually cares about "useful" light pattern/cut off/ etc. This also cuts on glare, but the 100% correct way to go about it is to do a retro. What I was trying to say that the OEM projector isn't perfect. What I WILL SAY, is putting HID in the stock reflector (03-05 4Runner) is just plain dangerous. Glare Galore. In any event, your cut offs looked pretty good.

I think an even BIGGER question, someone stated, is if the cops will bust your chops on them. Around here (outside of Philly), doesn't seem like they do.
