LED Brake Lights

I recently had to have my LED brake lights removed and replaced with OEM bulbs, because the LEDs shorted out and would shut off entirely when I turned on the headlights (no tail or brake lights). Has anyone ever had this problem before? I have a '93. I thought those things were supposed to last forever.

LED bulbs consist of an array of light emitting diodes and a current-limiting resistor. It's all solid state. Things don't get much simpler.

Sounds like a defective LED bulb to me...
