LED lighting

Ok, so I did my gauge cluster today (not as easy as I expected, but I didn't break anything, so that's a plus). I'm a bit put off by the hotspots, however.

I've noticed that the dispersion pattern isn't going to be the same between the incandescent bulb and the LED (see pic below). Has anyone found a workaround to get the light to spread more evenly?

I'll note that I have a 2001 t4r, so the chart above indicates #24 bulbs. I looked pretty extensively online and was only able to find the design pictured here. I'm guessing that I'm stuck with the #24s and can't use, for example, a 194?
 
Don't kill me of it doesn't work, but I'm pretty sure you can use a 194
I changed my entire dash cluster only using 194's and 72's it was extremely easy to do maybe 30 minutes to pull apart change bulbs and put back togeter
 
I would love to use 194s, since they have different designs with better dispersion. What year is your truck?
 
Ok, so I'm moving on to the neo-wedge bulbs for the climate control, etc and I'm confused as heck. Looking online, I don't see any of the vendors listed above, or any other vendors in google listing their bulbs as neo-wedge type a or type b. I see t3, t4, t5, but the measurements on those don't seem to correspond with the measurements listed in 4-Ripcord's spreadsheet (10mm/4mm, 8mm/3mm).

Can anyone help clear up this confusion, please?

I got these from eBay, but I haven't had the time to install them so I don't really know if they'll fit or the temperature, but I'm pretty sure they are supposed to be T3, at least on the 96

I'll try to install them this weekend.

On the #24 I couldn't find anything other than the ones on superbrightlights. I read on a Lexus forum that they are also called T5 or T6, but maybe other members know if this is true.

For your 24 slots these work great. They are 74 but fit...if loose just bend the socket contacts out a bit or if tight just shove them in. I got them for mine and really love them. Easy to buy and they are nicely priced. been putting them every where in my truck since I ordered just 1 the first time to try fitament. I placed a second order for 10. Still alot cheaper then the major led .com suppliers.
 
Okay so the T3 I post above are not really working they are a shorter than stock

Ok, I tried these and they suck for the gauge cluster. Dim, poor dispersion and very blue. They're so blue i honestly thought they had sent me the wrong bulbs. Confirmed that they sent the right ones, they just suck.

I also can't recommend autolumination.com, their return process is complicated and they charge a 20% restocking fee. If you want to exchange you have to buy the new bulbs first, then send the old ones back and then there's more paperwork involved. And of course you're on the hook for shipping on every transaction.
 
I finally got around to doing my LED swap and all went well except for my shifter bulb. Despite the chart showing it to be a 74, none of the three 74 LEDs stayed in the socket. Has anybody else had this issue? Is there another size that might also work?
 
Man I am so confused right now, I have a 2WD '99 Limited and want to change the Digital Climate control to blue and the gauges to blue as well. What do I need exactly? And how do I know which slots they go in? I've waded through 30 pages of this stuff and still can't seem to get a straight answer.

2 Neo Wedge 4MM (for the display background)
3 Neo Wedge 3MM (for the climate buttons)
2 Neo Wedge 3MM (for ECT/RR window button)

They are listed as NeoX -xhp where X= size of the bulb 3/4/5 and x=Color hp is hi power

I did my swap in my SR5 and used all the following:

1 74-WHP Cool White (Glove)
1 74-RHP Red (Key Ring)

^^ TheemikeB beat me to it. However, I you only need 2 LEDs for the buttons on the digital climate control

This chart shows what you need. I went to LED Lights, Bulbs & LED Lighting Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS | Super Bright LEDs Get the high powered ones (designated HP in the part #)

Here's the # for the buttons:
Qty 2 - NEO3-BHP 3mm NEO3-xHP Blue

And here's the # for the display
Qty 2 - NEO4-BHP 4mm NEO4-xHP Blue

I did the blue also. Looks very cool. May want to do the ECT and rear window buttons while your at it. They use 2 of the 3mm ones. The only thing you cant change (unless you want to desolder/ resolder) is the little green LED's on the AUTO button and A/C button and the orange one on the Defrost button. If you need some pics, of what it looks like I can upload some tonight. Hope this helped. Good Luck!!

Can some one explain the "#74 (#24)" portion. I have a 99 and according to his chart I need #24 for the gauges, is that right?

You are seemingly one of the few that has done a SR5.

I just did the climate control (non auto) and there is a yellow spot just in front of the old bulbs (looks like it was burned in) did you have this problem, if so how did you fix it? Im considering stripping the white off the back and covering it all with wax paper or maybe white Testors paint.

If you did a fix any suggestions would be great.

#74


These not the same! They have different bases and different diameters. By gauges you mean the speedo, tach, and center light. Those three bulbs are #24. Your blinkers are going to be #74.

Look in my sig, go to my build thread, click on LED conversion, and you'll see what I did. I have linked the bulbs I used, gave the location I used them with pictures, and stated the size. It's on 01 SR5 as well. Mine was a yellowish color on the inside, and had no effect on the bulbs I chose.

Did you leave it yellow or did you attempt to correct it. I think I will try to make it a clean white...I guess we will see how my attempts turn out.
