Left front hub hard to turn

Hey all,

I'm new to this forum had a question my new to me 94 runner has a SAS with what I think is an 84hour front axle. My left front hub is hard to turn into the locked position and has some noise coming from it. Is this common of the hub needing replacement or something else? Any info would be great...

I would just take it down and look at it and maybe clean it and regrease everything. It never hurts to look!! My trooper back home used to be hard to set in the lock or free position so I took it apart, used engine degreaser to remove everything and then reapplied grease. As far as the sound, idk maybe a wheel bearing or something, or is it when it's only in the lock position. because if it's making sounds while in 4x4 and locked, it's possibly the hub. My hubs were startin to make some noise here and there about a year ago. One of them actually shattered from the inside when i went through a massive mud pit. And what happens when one tire doesn't get traction?? oh yea, it spins while the other doesn't budge haha no more 4wd. But i'd actually take the whole thing apart, power wash it, and then grease the crap out of it. Those things don't seal real well in the first place, it prob just got some mud and grime in it and it went into self destruct mode. If that doesn't work then just get mile marker hubs for $100, that's what i ended up doin.

Oh and check to see how that snap ring is holding up in there. Those things don't need much to break of in pieces over the years.

Cleaning, rebuilding, and greasing the crap out of them is a good and inexpensive way to try to fix it. Mine got to the point where is was very hard to turn, after I rebuilt and re-greased them they work like new.
There are lots of stuff online about disassembly of aisin hubs. The hardest thing is to not lose the little ball and spring of the turn dial.
