Leg pain - stock seats

I'm noticing that every time i drive the 4r, my right leg starts to cramp and hurt.

I've noticed that i have to hold my leg in and flex my leg continuously to keep my foot over the gas pedal due to the lack of side bolstering in the seat. I can never relax my leg and so even after a short drive, my leg is killing me.

I've tried adjusting the seat every which way but it really feels to me that the lack of side bolstering and the relation of the gas pedal to the seat just doesn't work for me.

Am i the only one with this issue?

Everyone is different. Fat or skinny, tall or short, ugly or pretty and smart or dumb. In this case the majority of people are fine with the seats in the 4Runner. With that said they will not fit absolutely everyone in all applications.

There have been a very few over the past six years that have modded their seats to fit them by taking them to a upholstery shop and either adding a bit of a foam wedge to the seat or shaving the foam and removing a bit of the seat.

Take it to a shop and see what they can do.

I occasionally have the same problem on long trips. I keep the rear portion of the seat as low as possible, and raise the front of the seat almost all the way, then slide it forward until my foot is aligned over the pedal without having to stretch to it. This gives me full support for my thighs. I'm 5' 11" with a 30" inseam. Don't know if you may find this helpful or not but the suggestion can't hurt.

Yes my right knee and ankle especially kill me during a long trip, I've found the most comfortable thing for me was to let the seat all the way back and let my legs stretch out, yes it means you have to use the bottom of the steering wheel, but it helps. For reference I'm 6'1.

I use to have leg pain and this is how I adjusted my seat. Works great.

I'm short at 5'8" with a 30" inseam.

I found that lifting the front of the seat put too much pressure on the backside of my thigh.

It's hard to explain, it's not a fore/aft issue, but a left/right issue. Not sure if that makes sense.

I'll try moving the seat back more. I keep it pretty low and flat but will move it back and raise the front some to see if that helps. Oddly, i've never had this issue in any other vehicle i've owned.

6'3" 34" inseam

before i purchased i rented a 4Runner for a weekend mountain trip that involved a couple 6+ hour driving days and didn't have a problem, but lately for some reason my right knee will get really stiff if i drive for a couple hours

i've considered looking into if GX seats are any better but i assume that is a pretty pricey upgrade. really what i think i need is a few more inches of legroom, but if I do that then I also need the steering wheel to extend more

(this is a common problem for me and why i owned a string of BMWs before this)

I agree some kind of bolster is what you need. I do sometimes assume the man spread on long trips and it does start to cramp my right leg and thigh. I have found stuffing a small pillow between my leg and the console helps some. The MOST comfortable seat I ever owned was a $200 aluminum racing seat that had raised sides and rib support. Not pretty to look at but it cradled me like a baby. I could fall asleep in that thing while waiting for the race to start. If my wife didn't look at me like I was nuts I'd install one of those. Lol.

right. it's like my leg is allowed to move too far to the right and i have to bring it back and hold it so i'm in line with the gas pedal. it's like the seat and lower console was made for a person who's 50" wide with tree trunks for legs.

I have a 32" waist so I'm not big but even my old JK didn't have this problem. I drive 2 hours a day and the leg pain is getting old.

Sounds like you're sitting too close to the pedals and need to straighten your leg out more; maybe slide he seat back and sit more upright/extend the steering wheel so you can still reach?

This is what worked for me. After I brought it home, it really hurt my leg for same reasons you've described. I simply moved the seat farther back and lowered seat a little and now I can drive it all day without issue. If it helps, I'm 6'1, 34 inseam.

i'm back as far as i can go and still reach the top of the steering wheel with my palm. steering wheel is set almost down all the way and pulled towards me as far as it will go.

I just need the seat to keep my leg from rolling to the right. A better side bolster would do that.

This is one of my only complaints with the 4R and Ive had a a 4th gen and 2 5th gen trail ed. was the seats are not all that comfortable but not horrible.

I’ve been having this same issue. It goes from sciatic to almost my hamstring and outer thigh. The problem will crop up even if just driving to the store, doesn’t matter length of drive. I have to start wiggling around trying to relieve the pain. I’ve had my runner for 3 years now and I don’t remember it being a problem at the very beginning but it’s been bothering me for a good while now. I even bought like a granny padded car seat thing. I’ve been messing around with the seat angle more now that I’ve found this thread but it just seems like no matter how the seat is angled or distance away it creates pain somewhere. I absolutely love the my runner but the seat issue is a pain literally and figuratively.
I should also mention mine is the TRD OFF Road so it has the TRD seats. Not sure how much different they are from SR5 but thought that should be known.

I just finished installing these a couple of weeks back. It seems to put the chair at a substantially better angle.

I would end long drives with my knee hurting so bad it was hard to walk on. These seem to have changed the angle enough and provide enough support under my thigh that it isn't an issue. Plus you can get them with a front panel to mount fire extinguishers, flashlights, etc.

Thanks for this advice as I'm of a similar proportion and will try it. I love my T4R LE but agree with other posters that the seats are average at best. Does anyone know if the GX is any more comfortable or the same? My wife has a RX and the seats are better (more cushion/squish) although still not as good as the LC200 seats. I have thought seriously about the GX or LC200 just because of the seats.

I bought the same thing a few weeks ago. It took some time getting used to to find a good position but I finally found one. I'm planning a drive to Colorado in August so I'll be very happy about these. Does help my back pretty well.

I was going to post this article as well. i'm curious if you have the power seat? I'm wondering how high these would raise the seat over all? I always have mine at the lowest possible setting since I'm 6'5"
