Leveling Kit Caused Issues Related to Front Facing Radar - Help please

I have a 2020 SR5 Premium with the front facing radar for adaptive cruise control and accident mitigation.
Once I put the leveling kit (2-inch Front / 1-inch rear) I received a whole host of errors on the dash (Pre-Collision System Malfunction, Drive-Start Control Malfunction and ABS System Malfunction).

I have read many threads on this happening, but no one has a solution. The aftermarket seems to be clueless, as well as Toyota itself. The only suggestion is turning off the radar and deactivating any ability for cruise control and crash mitigation. Does anyone have any ideas? Can this be an issue caused by the alignment data entered when doing the 4-wheel alignment? Any help is very appreciated.

Has nothing to do with alignment of the wheels.

It has to do with the radar being pointed up to the sky.

I'd start with recalibrating the zero-point for the ECU. And then you might try to figure out how to shim the angle of the sensor in the grill.

Or - put an equal height front/rear lift on.

I am working with Toyota to recalibrate, but they are absolutely clueless on how to do it. So far, service tech is not much help...
 
they should have probably measured the vertical angle of the sensor and shimmed it to match after lift

totally sucks when changing lift and other things messes up these systems so badly.
 
What I'm curious about is if this is such a big problem for a 1" change in angle - how does it work when you put 400lb of cargo in the back? It would have the same result. Does the cruise not work if you put 5 bags of readymix concrete in the back? That's nothing.

I agree. Thankfully I had no issues with my Ironman lift. Only a couple of brief tests with adaptive cruise control and it was fine. No warnings or any kind. I have a trailer and the angle of the truck changes even with heavy springs. Again no error codes or lights.

I ran into the same issue after lifting my 2020 and created a post on this early in the year. I had no issue after the lift but it was not until the tire shop did my alignment that my vehicle threw the PCS error, so based on my experience i would attribute it to the computerized alignment telling the vehicle that something has changed. After some help from the lift company, toyotec, they were able to put me in touch with a dealer that could recalibrate after 2 others failed and a 3rd told me nothing they can do unless i return to stock. Can’t say exactly what the dealer did but he mentioned something to the effect of skipping or answering a step on calibration dishonestly.

You’ll probably find more people responding that they did the same lift or more and no issue, which seems to be accurate and terribly frustrating when your the one with the issue. You’ll also get a bunch of cool guys that want to tell you they don’t want these nanny controls, tune them out as there comments are not productive. Feel free to dm me if anything i can try to help you with. Although my issue was resolved i wish i could tell you exactly what the solution is. I also left a message for the service guy at the dealer to see if ok to share there info but didn’t hear back. Some recent posts imply toyota has sent a strong message to dealers not to lift or attempt to recalibrate lifted vehicles so i’m reluctant to post the dealer without their ok. If you have the toyotec kit i’d reach out to them or the manufacturer of your lift. Good luck

I tried exactly what you suggested and even hacked up my grill to lower the sensor to be back at stock height. I think once the error is thrown it needs to cleared by calibration. Although my sensor is back to original position with a new grill and dealer cleared error i suspect the distance sensor is not at spec with stock but radar cruise and the like seems to work well enough. Just mentioning in case anyone else’s desperation leads them to grill hack, luckily a new grill was surprisingly cheap

#1 "Leveling Kits" are festooning and vanity for assclowns and high schoolers trying to get attention.

#2 It's not surprising the "Leveling Kit" causes your safety and cruise control radar to go wonky with the new position of the front end.

#3 To fix the issues remove said "Leveling Kit" so the safety and cruise control radar now works and people dont think you are an assclown or a high schooler

My only experience with these systems is with luxo cars like Macans and Cayennes and I have never ridiculously loaded up one like I would my 4Runner.

But I'd guess 800 pounds of shit in the cargo area or a heavy tongue weight trailer are enough to sag the rear springs so the front rake goes away or you even get a Cali lean (or Carolina squat for you east coasters) and the designers had to factor this in... so why would a lift affect it?

Furthermore what about a lift with a bit of rake like mine because I don't want the ass to squat when I load it up?
 
Interesting, I put a 2.5" Dobinson Lift on the front and 1" in the rear with absolutely no issues with the sensor on my 2020.

Obvious assclownery made a $40K vehicle nonfunctional and by pointing out the stupid mod done only for “hey look at me I’m special too” and thus the cause of said malfunction .... facepalm

I’m leveled/lifted and my sensors, cruise control etc have zero issues
