LF 4th Gen CAD Files

So I have been getting into using programs like AutoDesk and Sketch-Up (I wish I could afford Solidworks :( ) anyways, I was hoping if any of you guys knew where I could find some shared CAD files that are accurate?

For example, Rockcrawler.com had these images on their article about the 4th gen:
cad_front_suspension.gif

ref- ROCKCRAWLER.com - 2003 Toyota 4Runner First Look

I also found a complete 4Runner rendering (I guess done by 3D scanner?) for like $500 (ouch ) but it looks like mostly exterior and interior panels & such, which would be helpful for some other projects, but nothing mechanical.

I found some files in Sketch-Up's online sharing library but I am uncertian how accurate they are in terms of matching up to real life dimensions & shapes...

Figured I'd ask around and see if you guys had any good/affordable sources I could check out as it would make prototyping things much easier and cheaper if I could just work out most of the kinks in CAD first.

Thanks for your help in advance!

I use solidworks every damn day at my job.

For anything hardware related, Mcmaster.com is your best bet.

There are some other cad file sharing websites out there.

Download 3D Models, CAD Objects | 3D CAD Browser is one I've downloaded things from a few times.

One thing to be vigilant of is places that offer 3D surface models, vs 3D SOLID models. Surface models are borderline useless for anything other than art/video/rendering type work. Theyre a HUGE pain in the ass to try and do any sort of design work with.

Sometimes you can even get what you're looking for simply by asking the people who are most likely to have it. There was one project here which required is to model the geometry of a GM vehicle. One of our engineers here got in contact with the right person at GM and received a 3D file for almost the entire unibody of the vehicle.

Neat, I will have to see if I can get a hold of someone from Toyota (you'd think it be easier since I work for a dealership...) and see if I can get some files...

I will have to check that link you posted later!

Sub'd. I'm interested in some too Black. Maybe if you find some for a decent price, we can get a few members to go in on the cost and share the file. I'd definitely be up for that, as long as they're good complete files.

That's exactly what I was thinking too! getting a lot of members to go in even if it's a dollar (Yes, less than a cup of JAVA) to donate to a good cause.. So they don't have to have access if they choose not to.. At least not for a dollar, as you can donate more if you wish to. Maybe even a raffle, I am sure since summer is here, people/companies can get creative..

I use NX at work. Some solid files would be awesome for sure. There's always the option of 3D scanning but I'm sure it'll cost big bucks.

I am currently running autocad2012-autodesk infrastructure design suite, and am looking to get a solid works also. the desing suite has, civil 3d, 3ds max, map 3d, industry model data editor, navisworks, autocad, design review, and inventor fusion. all great and helpful programs. I would love to have some cad files for my t4r. I am down to throw in some $ for a shared buy or even my own copy what ever it takes. keep me posted. I will start talking to my contacts and see what I can find.

I sent an email to Toyota in hopes of finding out how to aquire this mythical CAD files!

So far the TurboSquid ones are just 3D Scans and I don't know how deep they go (i.e. scanned with interior and exterior panels torn off as well, or just a scan of teh vehicle all assembled) so I will shoot them an email later as well.

So just an update:

Got an Email back from TurboSquid, they confirmed that the 4Runner CAD File (the $500 one) was scanned with the vehicle assembled. Which means the interior, exterior and such will be accurate, but nothing further than skin deep.

Toyota sent me some BS about not being able to access their CAD files from the dept I contacted, yet did not provide me with what the proper dept. was... so I will have to keep hounding them on that end.

I know i am digging up a dead thread here, but i wanted to know if you ever had success in your search for this?

i'm still looking for a cad file of just the exterior in order to make a shell for an RC rock crawler, all to no avail
checking if anyone had any luck

This is a big bump to an old thread but have any of you had any luck finding or making any files that you can share?
