Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

I like the look you've got going. I have been contemplating those wheels for a few weeks now. I really want some darker wheels to match my cladding and they look to be slightly darker then my split spokes.

If you end up getting them, make sure they are the FJ ones and not the 5th gen trail edition ones that are lighter, almost aluminum looking. I bought a set of 4 on ebay advertised as FJs and they turned out to be significantly lighter than the 5th one I had bought separate. For ~250 for the set, I wasn't going to complain though. They look great either way.

Thanks for the heads up

Here it is after a few changes

So I got ahold of some plasti dip, some Sequoia rims, and a flowmaster 40 series. and here are the results. Before and after. Took off the spider tracks and dumped the eghaust out before the rear passenger tire and painted it black so it was undetected. Plasti dip is anthracite gray.

My new to me 4th gen

I sold my 03 sport with 140k miles with plans to buy something else.

<a href="http://s761.photobucket.com/user/bigonenine/media/P6170002.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx260/bigonenine/P6170002.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo P6170002.jpg"/></a>

I couldn't stay away from the 4th gen, and bought this ridiculously clean 2006 SR5 V6 4x4 with only 38k miles! I regretted selling my 2003, but after finding this one i am more than happy.

This is the only picture i have of it stock, on the dealers lot.

<a href="http://s761.photobucket.com/user/bigonenine/media/Mobile%20Uploads/5A84B73A-77F4-48E8-BE8E-DBCC76523CA1_zpshqykn87b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx260/bigonenine/Mobile%20Uploads/5A84B73A-77F4-48E8-BE8E-DBCC76523CA1_zpshqykn87b.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 5A84B73A-77F4-48E8-BE8E-DBCC76523CA1_zpshqykn87b.jpg"/></a>

Shortly after, I purchased my lift and tires. OME 885 front, and Toytec superflex rear, with OME Shocks, and Light Racing UCA's. I bought a set of stock FJ wheels on craigslist, and 255/80r17 BFG KM2's.

Doing some flexing to check the rub. So far i have only removed the front mud flaps, and it rubs on the fender liner at full lock. I will be moving the fender liner, and trimming the lower fender shortly..

My only real plans for the near future are some sliders to replace the running boards, build some rear sway bar end links, and get a CB. It will be pretty capable in its current state. I plan to take it on a bunch of trips, and i will determine what else i really need/want.

Sorry about the crappy iphone pics, but the weather really sucks right now, and Mrs. Preacher will not let me take the really nice camera out. As it sits, there is about 1" of rake, which I do not like, so I will probably do a little adjusting in a week or two. The Bilstein 5125's that Toytec sent (due to shortage of rear 5100's, I absolutely HATE (enormous, spongy rebound). Luckily, Toytec has agreed to swap them out now that they have rear 5100's in stock again. 5125's aside, I really love the new suspension as it really soaks up terrain. I cannot wait for my November Big Bend National Park trip and December's Colorado trip to really test it out! My assessment of the Duratracs is on-going. They have only been on the truck about 24 hours, but initially, I noted that they are much quieter than I thought that they would be. I know they get louder with wear, but that's why I have two amplifiers, after all!

Anyway, next purchase will be Shrockworks bumper and LED light bars.

How you like the 885's? Deciding on whether or not to get them myself. My fully compressed tacoma coils on 5100's at 2.5 are way super stiff. Is there any rake left front to rear? My front is about two inches lower than my rear and I have super flex coils in the rear too.

I like the 885's. I don't have the front sway bar on right now, and the ride and handling is great. I have driven it about 500 miles on road so far, as well as some dirt roads and on the beach.

The rear is only about a half inch higher than the front, and that is with a trim packer on the front driver side strut.

To compare I had the 5100's at .85 on stock coils on my 2003, and I like the ome ride much better.

Have you been at interstate speeds with the sway bar off? I'd take mine off but I worry the handling would be scary at that kind of speed if I had to make a somewhat sudden movement..

I have had no problems, and I drive about 65 miles one way to work when I am not taking the train. I think the stiffness of the 885 coils, and the stiffness of the sidewalls on the E-rated KM2 really helps with handling. Also having a good alignment is key. I drove with the current setup for a couple weeks without getting an alignment, and the positive camber from the lift made the truck feel pretty dangerous. I was getting a lot of bump steer, and wandering problems on the highway. Now with the light racing UCA's i was able to get my alignment back to factory spec, and the truck handles awesome.

I haven't had to avoid anyone on the highway, but i am sure it will handle it fine. I do keep my speed down to 65 mostly, 70 max. I just drive with the mindset that i am lifted, and the truck will react and stop slightly slower than stock.

Lift for 275/55r20???

I have Cooper Discover 275/45r20s on my 2003 4runner now. For my next set of tires I was thinking about 275/55r20s. I was wanting to know how much lift I would need in the front to fit the bigger tires. Would I need to lift the rear too?

275/45r20=29.64"
275/55r20=31.89"

I ran that size with my Daystar 2.5/1.5 lift. Only had to remove the front mud flaps and cut the hump off of, and/or push forward, the forward fender liner. You're wheel offset might make a difference as well though. As far as getting away without any rear lift... You could try, but I wouldn't recommend it. I think that shakes out to about a 32" tire.

If you like the Coops, I'd suggest looking into the Cooper Zeon LTZ's in that size. That's what I ran and they were a really nice tire for the money. Mytoy4 runs them on her rig and I think she still likes them.

Hope that helps.

Hey Preacher 35, Im running the 5100's on all four. Plus Im running the Toytec 620lb 2" front coils with OME 895's in the rear. The stiffness is gone when Im out wheeling with my gear on board. The 5100's and the coils im using are awesome out in the desert whether Im running hard and fast or slo mo. On road, it handles like a descent little sports car. For a fully off the shelf kit I cant complain, but I want to inform everyone trying to build the ultimate rig.
The rebound valving in the 5100's is terrible with the coils I have chosen. These shocks need a ton more rebound. Not something so quick and bouncy as these. I cant see using a softer rate coil based on my past experiences and time in the seat in this vehicle. The compression valving is pretty good, and descent for most varieties of off roading and pavement pounding for an off the shelf shock.
The obvious solution to my problem, and one that will be addressed by next year, is to replace all four shocks with some rebuildable Kings or even Fox shocks. So I cant complain because I knew the perfect scenario up front. I truthfully didnt know I was keeping this rig at first.
Bilstein builds great products. Im just one of those 1%ers that has OCD and knows how to tune a chassis. Thanks and enjoy these truly awesome slow or fast off road rigs.

285/75/17s
If got some rubbing issues I need to sort out after trimming the body mount and pushing the liner forward. Probably need to move my caster forward a bit.

Think that could be solved with some 275/70/17s?

Loving the combo, the lift and wheels look right. I wanted a shadow mica SE badly, but couldn't find one. Got a silver SE instead :(

Newbie!!

Thanks to everyone here at t4r.org, I recently pulled the trigger on sprucing up my '04 SR5 4x4 with a lift/tire upgrade. You all were a major source of reliable information while considering my build! I've had it all on for a little less than a week now, and I absolutely love the stance, ride, and overall feel of my truck.

-Toytec 3" lift with Eibach (front) and Superflex (rear) coils on Bilstein 5100s

-BFGoodrich T/A KO 275/70R17 on stock rims

-Spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers

-Yes, I installed the diff drop. Just in case.
