Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

'03 4Runner SR5 4x4

With FJ springs and 5100's all around (front set at 0.85")
If you want to read more about it I wrote about it here.

And how it sits now with 5th gen TE wheels and with stock tires. When it's time to replace the tires, I'll be going with some KO2's to complete the look.

I read your link, thanks for sharing! Noticed that your staggered the fronts. Did you accomplish leveling out the notorious 4runner lean by doing so? I will be tackling my fronts this weekend, with OEM FJ coils and 5100s. My plan was to address the lean with a Toytec 1/4inch spacer on the driver's front as I already have one.

I was able to get the rear to level out the lean by adding a Daystar 1.5 to the driver's rear. Hoping to be able to accomplish something similar with the fronts.

No spacers. No trimming..yet...but I'm going to get some wheel well trimming done to stop the rubbing. That will likely be done during the phase two upgrade, which I will also be making a video of soon. I don't like the rubbing, and my wife even less so!

Finally finished my upgrade! Took me 7 hours to do the install all by myself which was a bit longer than I expected, but I'm extremely happy with the result. Biggest hiccups during install was a sway bar bolt that kept spinning, leaking inner CV boots, and the time it took to fit the rear springs. I used the bottle jack method on the rear axle and it just took forever to turn that thing. I prepped everything by watching YouTube videos and made sure I had all the right tools. Ratcheting wrenches are a must and the strap wrench for the rear shocks was clutch. Specs are:

Bilstein 5100s all around, set to 0
OME 884 front with 1/2" spacer on driver and 3/8" spacer on passenger
Toytec Superflex rears
SPC UCA's
Nitto Terra Grapplers G2 285/70/17
Spidertrax spacers

Alignment came in perfect, I'm glad I got the upper control arms. I think the tires are perfect and the spacers give it a nice stance. Let me know if you have any questions!

First photo is after lift, 2nd and 3rd are after tire install and alignment.

hows this setup treating you? I have the 5100s and 884s going in sometime next week along with new axles and bearings

Did 5100s and OME 885/895s this weekend. Love it! Tires are 265/70R17 General Grabber AT2s

Waiting for it to settle before I get it aligned, but I wouldn't be surprised if I end up needing UCAs. That said, the alignment feels pretty true right now as it is. I'm actually really surprised.

I finally got to load up the Dobinsons suspension this past weekend and was impressed! I ended up with just over 200 pounds of gear in addition to the bumpers and the three of us and the ride was really nice! We obviously did some highway and then gravel roads with some washed out sections and I even went through a section of trail that was washed out and rutted. The suspension performed perfectly... flexed extremely well to follow the terrain and felt very controlled. I do have to trim out the back of the front fenders though as I rubbed the passenger side pretty good.

Front: C59-302 coils / GS59-220 struts
Rear : C59-677V coils / GS59-575 shocks

Going to have to figure out how to cleanly remove that lower section.

I did the same setup in front as you a few years ago and am doing the UCAs. I think the ball joints might be going since I'm hearing some noise up front when on the downside of a bump. JBA Standards are going to be here on Friday.

Yeah, my balljoints were definitely starting to wear, but weren't to the point where I need to worry about em for a while yet (no vertical play). Thinking I'll just do those and UCA's at the same time whenever they wear.

Yes the .85” on the fronts help with the lean. Are you talking about staggering left/right? I thought the springs were already manufactured accordingly for the drivers weight?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but as I'm reading up the Suspension FAQ for 4th gen, I came across this...

All of the tire fitment/rubbing section is based on 17" wheels. However, I am 90% sure my 2008 limited has 18" wheels. And 60 aspect ratio which I believe is 31" tires.

So, my question is -- regardless of whether or not I have 17" or 18" wheels, if I am looking at 32" tires (65 aspect ratio on 18", 55 or w/e on 17") then all of the info on that FAQ still applies correct?

Sorry if this is a confusing question, I can clarify if necessary!

Quick answer is
265/70/17 and 265/65/18 are the same size
285/70/17 and 285/65/18 are the same size

Just put on some blacked out TE wheels with 265/70/17 coopers. I am running a OME lift kit with rear Toytec Superflex coils and drivers side spacers. They poke out a little bit more which I’m happy about. Spacers will be next I think. Would anyone know how much bigger i can go with my tires and not rub?

Today was a good day. Got the TRD Pro wheels mounted on the Runner.
(Been a while since I checked in, so I put the Gibson exhaust on, and I'm in the finishing stages of badge, and horrible pinstripe decal deletion. Have some horrible glue residue to remove)

What size KO2’s? Are they E load rated?

Those are the 265/70/17 C-rated tires.

Once you hit the 275 size you go to E-rated on the BFG's. Wish BFG made KO-2's C-rated in the 275. I would buy those in an instant.

I want a set of 285’s but after dealing with E rated Nitto Trail Grapplers for four years I want something that rides a lot smoother at highway speeds

Yeah, I'm not an off-road guy. I will drive my runner into the woods to park for some dirtbike riding, but that's about it. So C-rated is the way to go in my world. I know that Cooper AT's come in 275 C-rated. 285's? I'm pretty sure you're only option with those is E-rated.

Yes, I was talking about staggering the clips right to left. While the OEM coils are side specific to address the lean, my used coils were sagging significantly more on the driver's side regardless. While I did not stagger the clips on the 5100, I added the Toytec spacer and the front is completely level, left to right.
