wow. turtle looks good, but take your truck back to your tire shop and get tape weights on and cuss them out for counter balancing your wheels. there should never be 2 or more weights on either side of the rim spaced apart. they should be together. that means that got lazy balancing and didnt do it right, and they are most likely not balanced correctly

That's just an illusion of the picture, you're seeing a silver part where I painted my wheels black and they removed the weights, so there's no paint AND the actual weights, so it looks like multiple weights spaced out.

Your truck looks great. What did you use to paint your wheels? I have the same Daystar kit waiting to be installed, can't wait to get it on....just need some warmer weather. I have the Sidertrax on already. You are going to love them, they make a huge difference to the stance.

I can take a picture of the exact paint but it's a high-heat "wheel" paint I got from Autozone. They make this same paint for grills meant to resist up to 1200 F temperatures, the wheel paint I used is rated for 500 F temperatures. I don't think the high temperature resistance is necessary, but I think it makes the paint more malleable as opposed to brittle, so it's harder for it to chip off, that's been my experience at least, only marks I have in the paint are from having the tires switched out where it got chipped on the edges, and that's after 3 months.

I simply cleaned them really well, sanded them thoroughly, cleaned them again, then 3 coats of primer, 4 coats of paint, 5 coats of clear.

The hardest part is the center caps, it's damn near impossible to sand around and inside the Toyota symbol, so the paint didn't stick well in those areas, I'll have to redo them.

Thanks for the info. Once it warms up, I will be painting my grill and wheels. I have heard good things about Plasti-Dip so I think \I am going to try that first and if it doesn't work out/last then I will prep and paint.

If the center caps are the same as the FJ wheels the toyota emblem will pop off the center cap.. makes things a little easier. I ended up leaving the emblem chrome on my wheels.

I plan on getting 265/70/17 BFG AT's. I see in your sig that you are using Spidertrax with these wheels and 285's! It also looks like you were able to keep your mudflaps and no major trimming? I will be doing the Daystar 2.5/1.5. Have you had any issues with your setup?

I think you would be alright since you are going with smaller tires. That pic is from when I first put the wheels are tires on to fit them. I leave the rear mud flaps on for street driving but take them off for offtoading because they rub at full stuff. On the front I ended up taking the flaps off because they would rub at full turn. Then I had to move the front fender liner forward on the bumper and cut a little bit of the corner of the bumper. Hope that helps!

Just had the Daystar 2.5/1.5 and Firestone Destination A/T 265/70/17 tires put on like many others here have done. I am happy with the results so far.

I have only had them on for 1 day so far on this truck. I just traded in my 2003 Sport that had the same tire size upgrade (265/70/17) and saw a 1-2 MPG decline (no lift). The slight mileage decrease is worth it in my opinion for traction in NE Winters and the look. I do notice slightly slower acceleration due to the heavier & larger tires, but nothing significant.

No rubbing whatsoever. I was considering Spidertrax spacers also, but have read about slight rubbing with this tire size & lift with them.

are these p or lt tires?

They come in both. I went with the P - mainly because I only do mimimal offroading. The LT version was $40 more per tire and 10% (4lbs) heavier per tire.

I just got my T4R outfitted with Cooper STT's 275/65/18's, Pro Comp Flat Black 7089, Cornfed 3/2, Magnaflow Catback, and K&N CAI. Currently working on blacking out all emblems. As you can see the front grill is done. I had all my work done by Nick at 4 Wheel Parts in Raleigh, NC. They were very professional and knew exactly what they were doing.
