Lift Install - Maryland

Hi All,

Ok so I had planned to install my lift on my own (Toytec Ultimate and UCAs) but after looking at it sit in my living room for 3 months, I've decided to just pay for the install. Anyone have any recommendations on a good, reasonably priced shop in the Maryland vicinity?

Don't know where you are in Maryland but most will recommend Hi-tech auto that is near the DC area I think. They are a sponsor here to I believe.
 
Does anyone have a really good all inclusive write up? I've seen the spacer write up, looking for one that includes lift, UCAs, sway bar relocation, diff drop, etc. I know some of those things are straightforward but sometime just having the writeup to follow along with is added reassurance. Thanks!

There are plenty of write ups here but realistically there's nothing to it. Everything is a straight up swap. You won't need a diff drop as the angles won't change much. If you really want to understand what is going on you should read up on the suspension type that our 4Runner has. Read about what really changes when just driving down the street or going around corners! Once you understand the basic geometry you will realize what will happen when you lift it and all that lifting entails. Good luck and High Tech has done many of these lifts.
 
Ok ok so I'm considering getting off my bum and just installing the lift myself. I'm thinking since I have it apart mind as well do the UCAs while I'm at it. Any pointers for tackling them both? Thanks!

I have searched for write ups and only found a couple that are decent.

I second the recommendation. I had mine installed at a Toyota Dealership because I had read horror stories about independent shops f-ing up XREAS, but ended up having to go to Scott anyway because Toyota couldn't get the alignment right. I should have gone to Scott in the first place.
 
ok all - I am almost finished with the front but am cussing out the sway bar. Any tips on getting the away bar reconnected to the relocation bracket? Thx

Thanks for the help all. The video was really nice. Too bad it didn't really take 14 minutes :) Did the fronts Saturday and rear and all the other stuff (diff drop, sway bar and radiator relocation kits) today. Tomorrow is alignment...told them I wanted 4 degrees of caster, so we will see.

I am glad I happened to not start with the passenger's side because I would have had a false sense of bravado! Haha! Not sure but for some reason the driver's side took much longer than the passenger, both front and back. And of course the fronts were the worse part of it all. Also, getting the sway bar back on was no cupcake either but I really do think the relocation bracket was off a bit. The job would have been better with another set of hands but in the end I got it done and love it. Took her for a celebratory car wash before dropping off at the shop. Drove great already by the way!

Not good pics but here are a couple I took before the carwash. By the way, I truly admire those who do write ups and take pics a long the way. It was all I could do just getting it done let alone trying to take pics. Thanks again!



 
No pictures of the actual install as working solo it was all I could do just to get it done. I'll be taking the "after" measurements today when I pick it up from the alignment .
 
you wont get +4 unless you installed UCAs. I was able to get th esouth side of +3 with factory UCAs and 2.5" of lift. Looks good, congrats on doing it yourself... rip that diff drop out, it isn't needed ETA: I see you did UCAs..... carryon lol
 
Yea diff drop may not be necessary. Sway bar relocate and radiator spacers were much appreciated. After install the sway on the driver's side was very close to the coilover. The relocation kit helped but once installed the driver's side sway was then making contact with the radiator support bracket. Spacer kit eliminated the rub.

I will note the front skid plate setup...just ridiculous. That little tab thing in the center of the cover...why? Still need to reinstall mine but waiting until after the oil change this week.
 
So turns out can't get the alignment til Wed but I can tell I have a bit of positive camber. Will I be ok driving for a day?
