Lift kit installation instructions (time lapse video)

I just finished installing an Icon lift kit on my 4Runner. Needless to say the information I gathered from this forum was invaluable. Thank you! I wanted to give something back by putting together a video of the installation.



The truck drives like a dream now. The rear isn't jumping around and skidding on gravel roads anymore forcing me to engage 4WD, and I cruise on bumpy forest roads at speed now. It made such a great difference over stock.

For some reason the kit also cured the slight vibration in the steering wheel at high speeds on asphalt, after having the Duratracs balanced and aligned twice with no success.

I set the coilovers at 3". The adjustable UCAs allowed me to get a +4 caster in the front wheels with no problem at all.

Couldn't be happier.

Can I ask which icon kit you installed and which UCAs? I have an Icon stage 2 come with tubular UCAs so was curious. Sorry haven't watch the video yet so if you say it in there then I apologize.

It's an Icon stage 3, the only difference being the rear lower links. On top of that, I've added some shin guards for the rear shocks. They are way too exposed for my taste.

No. I actually attempted that. I thought I could get away with it.
You can see the KDSS bar still hooked up in a couple of shots even though they are sequenced after I've shown how to detach it :)

Oh well, it was worth a shot! Thanks for the video though, very informative and will definitely help out when it comes installing suspension :thumb3:
 
Great video, watching it confirmed I don't have the time like I once did to mod out vehicles like I did when I was younger Stock it will have to be for me

Same here. It's been a while since I worked on a vehicle. 10 years maybe?
I had it planned to get everything installed in a shop. Unfortunately the addiction resurfaced and took over as soon as I unpacked the boxes of goodies.

I used the bottle jack that came with the truck and a Pittsburgh 2 ton long reach floor jack.

When it comes to jack stands, I made the mistake of purchasing 3 ton jack stands initially, which weren't reaching high enough, so I had to go back and get the 6 ton ones. I still kept the little ones and they proved to be useful for supporting other things here and there.
 
Great video. Makes me almost think I could do the job myself! How long did it take you to make the change?

Thanks fortunately I have 6 ton stands, my floor jack is sketchy.

Well let's see...
20 mins video * 30 frames/sec = 36000 frames
the time lapse was set at 1 frame every 2 seconds
which means the real time captured was 36000 * 2 = 72000 seconds = 20 hours

Hmmmmm, that's actually about right. Damn....
I took my time and worked over the week during evenings.
 
Awesome. Gotta save that video just in case the internet crashes :) Definitely will be a huge help if I ever decide I need a lift. Thanks for the hard work!

Ha! I can see that happening as well. Why I'm leaning towards just getting the TRDP and leaving it alone. I had a 95 bronco that I had done a full suspension and other mods on, only to be pissed off at the dealer when I had to trade it in for a more "practical " gag family vehicle...great job again putting together the video for everyone.
