Lift

Yes its a lift question thread. I have searched and read lift threads on here, IH8mud and yotatech. Im getting mixed answers and I almost feel more confused that before i started researching. I want to achieve about a 3-4" lift. Comfort is very important because i have a picky wife and a new born baby. Im currently running 265/75s but plan on getting 285/75s. I just scored some LC 8 wraps on IH8mud. I wanted to run bilstein shocks all around but cant decide on the front coils. Ive read the pros of a coilover set up in the front but i would like to keep cost down if possible. Ive read about how OME setups can be rough but paired with an LC lift in the rear and bilsteins would OME 881s be bad? Ive read some say that you have to use OME shocks with their coils, is that true? I really wanna run bilsteins. Ive considered Tundra coils but will they give me enough lift to match the 8 wraps out back and are they that comfy? I dont plan on putting bumpers or a lot of weight on my rig but a WMW rack on the roof is in my future plans. I dont mind a little rake, i actually think it looks good as long as its not ridiculous. The only extra weight i would be carrying would be when its loaded up for camping and the roof rack. I guess im asking what would be the best value front end lift while getting as much comfort as possible. I dont plan on wheeling it hardcore just camping, some trails once a month or so and wheeling on the beach every now and then. If there is a thread already covering this and im beating a dead horse then im sorry for wasting everyones time. Ive had trouble finding the definitive answers I am looking for. Thanks in advance.

You need to run coilovers in the front regardless unless you plan on fabricating and stuff. The cheapest route is to assembly your own coilovers, which is easy if you buy/rent some spring compressors.

I'm running Eibach/Bilstein front coilovers and like them a lot, I get about 3" of lift on the lowest setting of the Tundra 5100s and they are very comfy I think but I am also running a 60+ lb plate bumper, winch, Hi-lift off the front, and a 40+ lb bash plate... It sounds like the Tundra coils would suit you well, they are a progressive rate coil so they put out a non-linear increasing force curve so they should ride smooth through bumps since they will be able to compress a bit further before bouncing back. If you aren't running a lot of weight I think you should get a fair amount of lift though will definitely have an inch or two of rake (I don't know how much lift the different LC coils have, someone will have to fill in) unless you bump the shock height which moves the shock outside of it's ideal and comfy valving zone to make it ride more harsh depending on how high you go. I was originally going to do the TRD coils, but due to how expensive/rare they are I just went with the Eibachs.

And yes, OME coilovers require OME shocks and springs.

I would foot the bill for some Toytec coilovers. I splurged for them and they are awesome. The adjustable height is awesome for dialing in the look that you want.

FYI, you don't want to go more than 3" on the front. Any more than that and you'll put the CV's at too steep an angle and you'll constantly be breaking them.

Thanks for your reply guys. I also plan on doing the diff drop and panhard drop as well as getting extended brake lines. So i guess coilovers it is. What is the difference between the toytec coilovers and the Eibachs? Is it just that the toytecs come pre assembled PLUS they have different spring weight options? Seeing how the price difference is around 150 bucks id rather assemble them myself. Thanks again.

Yea, you named it. You can also adjust the shock height without disassembling the coilover. Personally, I think that added benefit isn't worth it since you won't change the coilover setting more than once or twice maybe, assuming you do at all.

Gotcha. Thanks again. Yeah looks like the Eibach coils and bilstein shocks will be the way i go on the front end. Thanks guys.
