Lifted Springs

I know about suspension. I've worked on a lot if cars adding adjustable coilovers, camber arms uca, lca. Never did any lifts. That's why im asking these question. Since it is a forum where members join to share their insight on certain subjects and who people who just got into this scene to ask questions that one may not be similar with. I've searched the lift thread plenty of times and sometimes the answers just aren't there. I've also message a couple members on the board with question on their lift, since I've seen the height they have and it's similar to what I want to achieve. Searching through coutlness pages of lift thread to answer one simple question that most people would know the answer to but maybe chose not to answer? Thanks for the info t4r_finally I appreciate it

If you already have experience working on car suspensions, this should not be too hard to understand if you would just sit down and research a little bit on your own. The thing with asking 10 people the same question is, you'll get 10 different answers; and depending on who you ask, you might not even get the whole story because you're not asking the right questions. Wouldn't you rather rely on your own research and logic when picking out your parts?

Difference of opinion would help me pick out from the others. People chime in and offer their feelings on it and if it's similar to what I would want then I'll go with that. Going off topic now but I'm going with the bilstein all around and springs in the rear. Thanks for the info again

Mike @ Toy Tec Lifts

I just bought my 4Runner after my Xterra's transmission going out. After I bought my used 2011 SR5 I noticed that the rake on the truck wasn't right. My rear end seemed to sag a bit. I took it into Toyota and they told me all the suspension was working great and within parameters. I thought to myself they're lame because I compared it to other 2011 SR5 4Runners and it was sagging about an inch compared to them. I wanted to fix the rear end sag plus add payload capacity for all the stuff I carry here and there plus since I also tow. I've been a wheeler for years and have always relied on my skills so even though I know a bunch about wheeling I've never really had to deal too much with suspension except when I traded out my factory shocks for Bilstein 5100s in my Xterra and added a leaf for a 600 extra payload capacity. I had no idea how to figure all the numbers that go into ordering the right suspension components for what I wanted. I e-mailed a few manufacturers and got poor responses as well as good ones. I finally ended up contacting Mike at Toy Tec Lifts and he helped me out a great deal! I told him I not only wanted to fix the sag by replacing the coils and shocks (which I was already aware I needed to do even though Toyota couldn't figure it out) but I was also interested in a mild lift. I wanted to go with Old Man Emus because my research has led me to believe they're super awesome plus I have friends that use them that say the same but he recommended that since I didn't want to go with a 3" lift that I should go with the adjustable 5100 Bilsteins in the front and keep the front stock coils, change out the rear coils for Toy Tec's 2" Super Flex Version with 2" Bilstein's in the back, and drop the transfer case a bit just to be safe. The front would be adjusted 1.75 I believe and the rear 2.00 (permanent) which after settling a little will give me roughly 1.5 and 2.00 front to back with a 2.00" rake which is what I was hoping for since I want to keep a factory look tilt wise but lift it for bigger tires and better clearance since I have a non TE. Mike was a great help and he gave me a discount too. He made everything clear for me since I had so many questions. I would suggest hitting him up if you need some help too. Also it was a great beginner (since I've never lifted before) budget build for about $600.

I am not saying all Asian stuff is crap (I do own 2 Toyotas and a Honda). I am referring to cheap, made in China, knock off stuff you find on eBay.

My sig pic is my truck leveled with Bilsteins set at 1.75" in the front. It looks very level but when I look really hard, there is still a very slight rake when unloaded. When I measure my fender wells from the ground, the rear is a little higher than the front, although that is not the true test for level. The bilsteins will give another .75" in the front, so if you add 1 to 2 inches in the rear with spacers or springs, you will likely have some rake or at least some raked appearance when comparing the fender wells. The sway away coil springs are popular for 1.5" lift in the rear because they will allow some rear weight without sagging as much as the stock springs with spacers. You do not need a diff drop or UCA's for 2" or so of total lift.

Thank you!!!! I appreciate your help and input

I did want to add that Bilstein manufacture's the shocks themselves in Germany and the USA so they are not "white-labeled" versions of a Chinese manufactured product, with only a logo and higher price tag. They are made by Bilstein so Bilstein has an actual stake in the game. :thumb3:

Got any pictures of it?

Are you referring to me ISAM? Is so I don't yet because I just ordered them. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Also TR4 was talking about how his 4Runner looks leveled with a slight rake when it's unloaded. Well that's how mine looks right now. I want my rake to be noticeable. It's more comfortable to me also.

Post up once you get it on :)
