Light Bar/Electrical Question

Hey everyone,

Wanted to know if I needed to run an auxiliary battery if I am going to do the following:

Planning on getting a Gobi Rack soon (Group Buy) and want to put a forward 40" light, 2 rear lights, and also am going to install the Rigid Fog Lights on my grill.

I have a portable air compressor I use but no plans for frig or anything other electronic accessories (or any I can think of now...). Will my single battery be able to support all this or will I need to install another one?

LEDs don't draw very much so you'll probably be fine. You could just get a deep cycle battery instead of a dual setup and you'd be golden.

Honestly if it were me, I would run a separate battery strictly for your accessories. Keep all your accessories on a seperate circuit completely. Especially if you THINK that's all the extras you will have, because you will have more. Maybe a fridge? If they are seperate, and some weird thing happens on the accessory side, at least you can still start your truck. Also makes things easier to troubleshoot. Just my opinion.

Rigid 40" draws 16A
Rigid 2 rear lights, draws < 2A each, probably not going to be ON with your front lights.....
Rigid E 6" DOT Fog light draws < 3A per pair
Air compressor, draws 30A max, probably short usage time, probably not on when your BIG lights are ON

I am not exactly sure what's the output of the 4Runner alternator when the engine is running. I would guess somewhere around 100A. Do your math. You are more than fine when the engine is running.

Now when you engine is not running. A deep cycle group 31M marine battery, that a few member have recommend is close to 100Ah @20hour, ie. if you continuous draw 5A, you will have 20hrs before the battery run out. Or 92Ah @ 10hour, ie. if you draw 10A, you will have 9hours..... so you can guess if you keep drawing 20A, you probably have 3 or 4 hours of juice...

The regular battery has much less juice, but for your application, I couldn't see that you will be running any of those for a prolonged time with your engine off.

Yeah, just thought about a wench. Might add the dual later on down the line, not sure if I want to spend the extra $$$ right now on all the components. Plus I have no idea what Im doing when it comes to electrical.
