Light burning smell from under hood (driver's side)

It is only/always from the driver's side and very faint, but enough to annoy me.

Likely. I have the same thing going on. Try the simple solution first before getting into anything more involved (and expensive). Try tightening the bolts on the valve cover. Apparently they can come loose over time.

Can you reach the bolts without removing the plenum?

Thanks. How many bolts are there total? 4? 6? More?

hmm. this is from memory but I think there are 16, 8 on each valve cover.

I tightened the four I could reach on the driver's side. All four were pretty loose. I'll keep an eye on it the next few days.

Was there any oil coming from the valve covers? I can see oil coming from them, and that is where my burning smell is coming from

The valve cover bolts are actually supposed to be pretty loose. However, you can get by, by tightening them down a tad until you've got time to replace the gaskets. I have been putting mine off for a year. (Did the passenger side no problem).
