Lighted Clinometer Installed-And Shining!

So anyways, I originally used the plug from an old radar detector and just wired it the clinometer, plugging it in the cigarette lighter to power the unit. After realizing just how "ghetto" it looked, I went to Radio Shack, bought the plugs used for RC Car battery packs, soldered the "female" part of the plug with its wires in the place of the orginal wiring. The "male" part of the plug I soldered onto the other end to the wire from the same old radar detector as before. Works great, and looks a HELL of a lot better than before.

On a side note: Check out the MPG! That is with running Revo's (265/70-17) at 36PSI cold, and with a K&N Drop-In. That is highway of course, and I have calculated that it is less than 1 mpg too high, so I am actually getting 20mpg.

Yeah....I know. I was going to try to cover them up with actual pictures of my 4runner, but I couldnt get it to look good (I must have tried every freakin way possible). Oh well, maybe if I flip my truck I can imagine it is actually a jeep so I wont be torn up so much! See---that is the key---find the rosey side of everything!

It's instantaneous. As you can see below, I mounted mine lower. Good job Shaun! (yes I was climbing a hill when I snapped this) Note the tilt of the liquid in the bottle.

Cool, I wasn't sure exactly how it worked. That would come in handy, save you having to get out of your truck every few minutes to check out the incline. I like where you have it mounted too. Got rid of the completely pointless compartment and put something useful in. Hey, that should come factory! :

I agree on the worthless compartment.

Most of the time the clinometer is for your passenger because when it gets REAL steep your eyes don't leave the trail much but it's very nice to have to reassure yourself that you aren't going too far. Your 4Runner will climb some amazingly steep angles.

What I love about having the wire come off is that you can light it when you want, but can unhook it so the damn wire isnt dangling in the way of the radio. Plus, I didnt have to pull the dash apart and run wiring (which I hate to do)

Yeah that is another cool thing about it. It can get pretty messy doing wireing beneath the dash. Everytime I've ever had to remove a part of the dash to do some kind of install I've had a rattle once I got it put back together. Everytime..

Fortunately the 4runner seems to have a very high fit and finish because I've taken the dash apart many times and no rattles in that section. Now the subs in the back making the rear hatch rattle is another story...
