LImited Owners with HID lighting

I know there are other threads for the HID and have tried to get anwsers for my problem but i need someone who has installed the HID lighting on a Limited with the Auto-On head lights I have installed it on mine but for some reason when I get in to drive my 4R at night with the lights set top Auto sometimes only one head light comes on which is the passengers side I quickly turn the light off and turn them back on again and they both comes on I already replaced the ballast and light bulb thats not it and also switch ballast and bulb from one side to the other does the same thing has anyone else had this problem I need your help!!!

I did an HID retrofit on a TransAm that did that too. Sometimes I would just have to flick the switch back and forth a few times before both were ignited.

The problem was fixed when I switched wiring harnesses and had each light seperately wired straight to the battery. I don't know if that helps ya at all, but that was my experience.

I think it's from using cheap ballast with a system that wasn't made for for HIDs. I had the same issue with the fogs on my old car that I swapped out fro HIDs.

Maybe the "auto on" setup doesn't give the ballast enough juice/time to ignite. I just had to turn them off for a second and then back on to get it to go.

what kit do you have?

I have a HID setup on my limited and have not issues. I'm not running a relay. Are you? What kit do you have? I'm sure you did this but double check your connections. Does this happen when raining or only in high humidity?

It happens most of the time the brand is AGT I bought the relay and recieved it yesterday have not installed it yet. but if I turn the lights off and then on again it comes on so I think you guys are right it's not getting enough power when I turn on the truck to power them both now the relay according to the video online on the companys website carhidkits.com say the relay only has to be plug into one of the lights to make it work which is the light thats closest to the battery which happens to be the light that does not turn on at times what luck!!! i told the guy this on the phone and he said I would have to run another wire to the other light then to see if that will work! I have the HID conversion kit from Plasma Garage. It's a
Phillips kit. Kit comes with two Ballast. Site quotes that newer models don't need the relay.

You can get a kit from amazon but plasma has it much cheaper. Amazon.com: PHILIPS HID CONVERSION KIT - 4300K, 5000K, 6000K in….

I used this harness here:

HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning

Again, once I switched harnesses, my problems went away as described in this product description. I used the same 55w ballasts and bulbs.

I also used HIDplanet's forum for troubleshooting and research.

Dispence I ordered the lighting harness that you sent me the link for and this is all i will need? blacknight I did not go with your HID kit becuase at this point I am trying to save some cash so i will try this first by the way i will keep you posted on this it will probably take a week before I get it since they are out in Cali and I am in NJ.

Opening this thread back up as I recently installed the Morimoto HID low beam kit from www.theretrofitsource.com

I installed the relay and have the issue that has come up before with others that at start up with the "Auto" function only 1 of the head lights fire up, I have to toggle it off then on for both lights to fire up.

I have a suspicion that due to the "Auto" function that there is not enough or no delay between the engine starting and the head lights firing up that the HID ballast does not receive enough amperage from the battery to fire up both HID bulbs. I've checked all connections and everything is tight.

Am I relegated to not using the "Auto" function and leaving the lights off prior to starting the engine?

Seems you can prove your theory quite easily by leaving the lights off until it's started, then turning them on manually.

does the retrofit source come with a relay? if so, try installing the relay and see if it makes a difference.

i don't have a limited but i don't think the explanation above makes sense. I have started my car with the headlights already on multiple times and my headlights have never had an issue (i try not to because i know it can be bad for the ballast, but i sometimes forget). I am using the xenondepot kit though.

Yes that's exactly what I did to come to that conclusion/theory. "Auto" is now a useless feature :mad2:

I did call into the Retrofit Store and they advised that I install their capacitor link to hold power while the engine is starting. Crossing my fingers this solves the issue.
