Limited Ventilated Seats opinions

OK folks, this is it.

We are going to change our mini-van, and The Princess has giving me the green light for the 4Runner. She does not "love" the idea as I do, but she is willing to let us have our family car in the form of a 4Runner. I nailed down to either the SR5 Basic 4x4, or the top Limited (not in betweens).

What is your opinion on the Ventilated seats of the Limited? Any opinion is appreciated a lot. Good, bad, etc... Comparison to, against...etc. Comfort seating? (have read that the Highlander Limited with ventilated seats is somehow uncomfortable due to the fans inside the seats). We are located in the South US, hence really hot summers ahead of us !

Go drive one and find out. Everybody is different. What may be comfortable to one person is unbearable to another.

Im in Va Goyo, It would be hard pressed to go without them after sitting in it. There is no better feeling then sitting there and you get in the 4runner and a minute later your bottom starts cooling down. Its a great feeling!

Thank you. Yes, I did that. However, I am looking for days, months, maybe a year of experiences from fellow 4Runner's instead of just going with the hour or so of test driving. ;-)

Which would your wife prefer? She doesn't sound thrilled, so I'd go with what makes her the happiest of the two...

I personally found the cloth seats to be more comfortable and the air conditioner of the 4runner to be 1,000,000,000x (might be a slight exaggeration) better than my previous vehicle. I can cool the truck down in seconds...

Everyone is different.

I like leather seats, but in a car, they're rarely more comfortable... or so my tush tells me.

Here's another aftermarket option offered by most dealers if you're wanting ventilated seats but not really interested in the Limited to get them.

Best invention ever (aside from A/C) for those in the sunbelt. When I get a new 4R I'm definitely getting a LTD, in large part because of those ventilated seats.

Test drive is required to determine comfort and if you can do so on a hot day without letting the dealer prestart/cool the car to see how much of a difference it really makes. I don't have a limited so I have no 1st hand knowledge but my brain says its ventilated, not cooled so its pulling in air from the cabin (assume) and if that's the case its blowing 100+degree air on your tush until the cabin starts to cool so I don't see it of being a huge benefit but maybe others will chime in.

I assume there are other considerations here but to clarify, you are not deciding between a ~8-10k difference in price (base SR5 - Limited) just based on ventilated seats correct?

Either way hope you like the 4runner

This is what sealed the deal on a LE for my wife. It was a must have for her. Admittedly, it's pretty nice. I'm just bummed we don't have a Locker and MTS.

My parent's Lexus with black leather has them, believe me they are worth it, even in a hot car. Just imagine A/C on the seat blowing below 40*F, you'd be a numbass in no time.

I don't think the Limited's seat ventilation system is hooked into the AC system. Toyota < Lexus

The Lexus system isn't either, it just circulates cabin air. Even when the car is hot and has been in the baking sun, it's still better than just having a simmering seat to sit on IMO.

I think the effect would be way too dramatic if it were tied to the A/C system and was pumping out sub-40 degree air.


All this talk about the 5th gen limiteds has me itching to go look at new ones again...

I don't know how the ventilated seats work in my Limited, but I do know they cool me down quickly even on hot Texas days. It's a nice feature to say the least.

I agree as well.
While PA is not TX or FL, a black truck gets plenty hot just the same.

I certainly didn't have any problem all these years living without them, but they definitely are a nice feature.

The ventilated seats are one of my favorite features on my Limited. They're incredibly under-rated, in my opinion. Get 'em!

My 2014 Limited is the 1st vehicle I ever had or drove with ventilated seats. I am happy with mine and it does spoil you, especially where I live in the desert. I found they pretty much need to be set on the highest speed to work well and the fan is somewhat noisy at that setting. Also when applying leather conditioner you have to be careful not to plug the holes in the seat with the conditioner. If you do it can be cleaned out with a tooth pick.

Yeah, that's just way overkill for price! 2 grand to keep my ass cool in summer? I love the idea, but that's just out of the question! I'll run the a/c a bit higher and deal with it!

Its a bummer too, because I would probably have paid 6 or 8 hundred bucks to have it installed in both seats, but not 2 grand. Loved it in a rental car we had back home, was nice to be cool in seconds rather than minutes...

I have it in my 14 limited. I don't think it is something you buy the car because it has, but man, sure does work and i think the seats are very comfortable. Love getting in when its hot, rolling the windows down and cranking that feature. Cools fast!

I drive long stretches for business and I love the vented leather seats. I have driven 6,000 miles in 2 months and find them very comfortable. I recommend a long test drive or two before making a decision. Good luck.
