Limited vs Trail Premium

If you get the Limited, ditch the 20s and get a set of 17s or 18s. After 3,000 miles I sold my LE wheels and tires on Craigslist for significant $$$ and bought some 18" LE 4th Gen wheels and Michelin AT2s.

How much better would the AT tires on the Trail be compared to the highway all seasons on the Limited? My biggest complaint about the Limited comes back to the oversized 20" rims and lousy tire selection for them.

One option would be to order with the new 17" TRD wheels that are on the Pro. The Toyota vehicle builder has them as a $215 add on plus installation. Look in the performance accessories category.

I live in the NW Maine mountains at the end of a 1 mile dirt road. I bought 17" wheels with 265x70x17 Cooper AT3s for my 2014 Ltd. and have been in snowy mountain heaven ever since. I did buy 10ply tires as I spend a lot of time off road fishing and hunting. I had the same Coopers on my 2007 T4R and I love them. The only negative is that my wife thinks that the new tires ride a bit harder. But the other day when we had over 10 inches of new snow she loved the way the T4R drove getting out to the pavement. If I had to do it over again I would stay with the Limited edition for the extra goodies. The 20" tires suck for off road or rural driving, but with the new Coopers and rims (thank you discount tires!) it is every bit as good as my old 2007 T4R and even better with the extra features.

Ironic

That one of the only stock size tires for the 20's are Blizzaks. I have 17's for the rest of the year. Toyo AT2's, E load, but they are loud. Noticeably on the highway.

I've seen some local CL deals for less than what you could sell a set of 20's for.

But yeah, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the stock tires on the limited are not great.

Not sure I get this. Seat folding is the same in all models, except Train can't have third row. If I get a Ltd. with no 3rd row (deeper cargo hold) it would identical to a Trail I believe. It does fold flat if you get the third row, but you lose 5-6 inches in depth. Since I will rarely fold the second row, I want the bigger normal cargo area.

If you have third row it is level with the second row when folded. It has been possible to get a limited without third row and have the slightly extra cargo space, in that form it should be the same as the others.

Plenty of folks have gone outside the approved tire size to get a more AT size tire on stock rims. Based on your statement of time spent driving in snow a dedicated set of snow tires is a waste of your money. I drove two Colorado winters on the stock duelers, it wasn't fun a couple times and moving to an AT tire helped a lot, but I got around just fine since I understood the limits of the tire.

Pull the 20" wheels and tires off and replace them its 17" wheels and you have tons of tire options. You can sell the 20's after that. This is what I did on the wife's Limited. She is now running Duratracs in 265/70-17 and they perform well in all conditions.
