Limiting Strapesque Sway Bar Links

So I've been browsing and shopping around online, and I started to wonder: Why do the swap bar end links have to be solid? As in, why can't it be like a heavy duty chain or nylon straps? And while there are limiting straps out there, their purposes are different (prevent rollovers vs prevent damage from overflex) unless I got it all wrong...

So why not make sway bar links made of chains/nylon/whatever? If straps can be used for the entire weight of the car (recovery straps/towing), why can't they be used to keep the vehicle stable?

Anti-sway bars do not behave like anti-droop bars.
The force of one side articulating upwards acts to push against the opposite side
producing downward force, and thus traction to the unweighted side of the vehicle.
