Line X, any thoughts?

hi, guys

my first thread here

going to get a '11 TE in black within the next couple of weeks. was thinking about getting some line x on rock panels, door panels and maybe even on the hood (only the front part ). what do you guys think? is it worth it or just waste of money? your opinion is greatly appreciated :hatsoff:

someone on here did that, hood, rear spoiler and some other stuff. Not for me but I admit it did look cool, and would be crazy durable. In my experience it can be a little hard to get clean, so consider that.

I quickly searched for that thread but as usual the BS search on this forum didn't allow me to find it, Im sure if you search 'bed liner' or 'line x' or 'rhino liner' and dig through the 5000 hit it will give you you'll find it.

The search can be a pain. Try using google "........+t4r.org" often works for me

The problem I see with Line-X/Rhino Liner is the thickness and texture. It goes on at least 1/8" thick, so there's no way to have a smooth line between the material and the body panel. Its also lumpy, since its made for traction in truck beds. I'd guess that you could put on a much thinner coat with the DIY Herculiner kit, and you might be able to make it smooth by using a non-textured roller to apply it.

I had Line-X on my FJ, it worked great. They now have a few different textures to choose from, so check'em out.

I think it would be practical for the roof and the rear spoiler but the hood, I'd go vinyl. But to each his own 4runner :flipoff: Do it how you want it. Make it unique

I have had some vehicles that had a soft Line-X type material sprayed on the rocker panels before the final paint job. Over the years even if the paint chipped away there were no rust issues.
The paint took wax whereas the Line-X you are thinking about will show all kinds of stuff. Kinda like the once optional cladding on GM Avalanche that is no longer an available option.
It showed lots of dirt/road wear and I always wondered what the metal beneath the cladding must look like. Your Line-X idea should not rust.

I have thought about the same thing. I saw an 80's Chevy 4x4 Completely Painted in Rhino Liner, It was pretty cool actually. Not sure about keeping clean other than Simple Green or Super clean and a pressure washer.

I have Rhino Liner in the Bed of my Truck, over the rail slightly. When only a few months old an A$$ Hole hit me in a parking lot and bailed without leaving a number. Anyway, I had to have the passenger side outside bed repainted. The body shop tried to tape to the bed rail rhino liner edge, it totally made a Lame paint line up to the liner edge. Extremely noticable, Really Bad! The only way to repaint when you have the liner is to Chizzel it off, repaint, then re-apply the liner. Which is what I had them re-do and it turned out excellent. The Body Shop sent it to Rhino Liner to do the Chizzeling then back to paint then back to Rhino, What pain but it had to be done.:beer:

Try the entire body. It's super user friendly now.

I'm recommending lining your entire vehicle. Super easy to wash, ding proof, weather proof, etc.

I checked out getting my Trail's black trim pieces done. Just the fenders and front bumper. The local Line-X shop close to my work doesn't have a big enough bay to spray it. He could of if I removed them - forget that. I talked to another Line-X shop. $900 to do it. I have not had it done, but would if around $400 - $500. I just know that soft trim will not only get trashed, but will also fade in the sunlight over the years.
