Line-X(ing) my '04...Opinions Wanted

So I've found a local shop that's going to Line-X my '04 for a very reasonable price (we agreed it's not going to be a SEMA show truck and therefore won't require that same level of detail - i.e. complete trim removal, door jambs and underhood sprayed).

I'm basically doing it because my paint is 12 years old and needs to be refreshed. I'd rather have something I don't have to baby on the trails than something that shines when clean.

My dilemma is this:

What color should I go with?

...Black is considerably cheaper (truck is currently white) to the tune of about $500. Apparently tinting the Line-X isn't cheap.

I'd really like to do a Galactic Grey or even Magnetic Gray Metallic...

However, for the last 2 years it's been covered in Camo Tan Plasti-Dip (which was finally starting to peel on the rockers due to chips)...and I still think I'd like a sand color or maybe even WWII OD Green...(link to pics and write up on the Camo Tan PD - "http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/139723-have-i-lost-my-mind.html").

Is it worth $500 more to have something other than black?

Sand/tan would look great. I've actually seen a car in sand colored line-x and it looks legit!

OD Green, or Tan.
Both great military colors, both work well with black wheels and accessories.

In about 8 years I think mine will switch to OD Green.
By then I'll need a change and I'll be able to afford the accessories i want.

I would never own a black vehicle in a place that gets hot. Not crazy about black for a car anyway but if it gets hot there, even worse.

As far as whether it's worth it to go an extra $500, I guess just figure out how much longer (in months) you're going to keep it, then $500 by that number of months to get the monthly cost. Say you're going to keep it at least 3 years (36 months.) Would you pay $13.88/month for your vehicle to be the color you want it to be? I would.

But then again, I'm the guy who paid $1000 over his $18k budget for a 4runner because it was SRP (Maroon) instead of the much more common silver, grey, white or black. :shrug:

BTW I thought the sand-colored plasti-dip you did looked great. Especially with blacked out grille and accents.
