Long Roof Racks

I swear I looked though old threads first.

I am looking at roof racks and know the Baja and Gobi use the stock 8 bolt holes for the existing roof, but what about the front two points? Do you have to drill holes and bolt it down or do they simply sit on the roof line and create a support point for the rack?

The front points on the Baja Rack are supported by padded stanchions that just sit on the roof.

That is what I thought I saw from Antman's thread. Thank you for the reply's.

I want the longer rack but didn't really want to drill extra holes and pull down the head-liner and bolt through and worry about water.

Now to decided.

Go with the Gobi - I love my Baja Rack, but I prefer the look of the Gobi by a very narrow margin. Plus, I wish they had a ladder for the Baja Rack like Gobi has.

No drilling :nono: They are held in place with double sided tape. put them on the rack finger tight, slide em down to meet the roof and tighten em up.

I got mine stuck in place on the roof then put a little upward pressure on the rack to raise it about 1/4" then tightened them up, this way there's a constant down pressure to hold them in place.

I know what I want. Now to see if it can be done.

I want a low profile full length flat roof rack like the Baja Utility so I can easily mount my ARB roof top tent, but I want a basket area over the moon roof section.

They make a shorty version for the 5th Gen 4RNR, but I want a full length. rack.

There's a dude on here that has a Baja utility rack and the Gobi ladder. I think it looks pretty sweet. Can't remember his name but he's in Louisiana. You can see photos of it in the thread where we mention harper7 & Kenny Powers. Might be the "what did you do" thread.

I've got the stealth GOBI and a RTT. I just use Thule cross bars for when I have the RTT on. The Thule crossbars stay attached to the RTT for ease of installation. I personally prefer the small walls for my cargo when the RTT isn't attached. And you're not going to want the RTT on top 24/7.
