long travel on factory fenders?

Pretty much as the title states: I have been sort of toying with the idea of long travel front sus for the extended travel, but don't want to run aftermarket fenders. Has anyone here either run or seen someone running a setup under stock fenders? maybe with the right wheel backspacing? I dunno

With a LT setup you're going to WANT to run fiberglass or aftermarket flares. Here is a 4th gen build with stock flares, but he had to cut them. How to ruin a 2008 4Runner - TTORA Forum There is no way you could run a full LT with the factory fenders as your sport flares would get ripped off pretty quick. You could do a MT setup and keep the factory fenders. Trimming will most likely be needed though for MT setup as well to not rub at all.

I'm running my LT with the stock limited fenders. I had to cut the guts out from under the fender but it clears all the way to the bump stops now. sorry this is the best pic I have after cutting the fenders out. I'm running 35-12.5x17 with 4.5 bs.

SCrunner, forgive my ignorance, but am I right in assuming MT= medium travel? thanks for the link as well.

Broker, wow, nice to know that it will fit. are you running any sort of body lift, or is it all suspension? I definitely wouldn't be running 35's, probably just stick with 285's. LT or not, I am thinking of running a 1" BL eventually, just for the extra clearance

you can deff keep the stock fender, but it is a lot of work, bying going LT your front is gonna be way way wide. and you'll have to cut the fender itself and the wheel well inside, after all the work it'd be easier and cheaper to do glass fenders.

MT is Mid Travel. This often consists of aftermarket UCA's and some extended travel coilovers. It allows extra travel, but your front won't be as wide a LT setup.

A body lift will definitely help, but trimming will be needed still.

I am running a 1" body lift. But that is only for less cutting of the inner fender wells and a future clocked transfercase. I originally wanted to go glass but I got screwed by glassworks, which as far as I know is the only one who makes glass fenders for the 3rd gens. Basically he took my money and lie after lie I still have not seen any fenders or my money back, so I just cut up my stocks and they seem to work so far.

I wouldn't say it is a lot of work to make them clear, it took me maybe 3-4 hrs to cut them up and most of that was pulling the spring off the shock so I could cycle the suspension. If I didn't have the limited flares it would of made things much harder.

Hey man...stay on the Glassworks thing...its a known issue with them..
I have dealt with them several times...unfortunately it sucks but he will take care of it...must hound him like crazy!!!

Yea, I just won't do business with a company that operates that way. I'm already I'm the process of getting my money back so I don't really care about glassworks anymore, I'll never do business with them again. I can't deal with a company that straight up lies to you, can't anwser phones, or return emails, IMO it's not worth it. My stock fenders clear every bit of movement my suspension can throw at it for now and it keeps a stockish appearance. So I don't see a reason the throw another $400-500 in fenders when they aren't needed that money can go into bumpstops.
