I have read for the past 3 days. From everything I can see only the V8' have a timing belt. The dealership I am looking at the truck gave me a Carfax and at 106,675 it is documented at a different New car dealership, that the timing belt was changed. I called , they confirmed. Here is my question....It is a V6. I am certian of it. The picture in the online advert shows, the Carfax also shows. As I understand, the V6 has the Timing chain and not subject to replacing except under extreme conditions. Other than that I have 130K miles worth of documented maintenance. And its a good price. Can anyone shed some light on this before I pull the trigger on this truck? Thank you in advance.

Well a timing chain could need to be replaced eventually but I doubt it would be replaced at 106k. That's just too soon. If the service was performed at a Toyota Dealership then you'll get better details by going to the Toyota Owners website and registering. Then add the car to your vehicles (you'll need the VIN) and you'll be able to see a complete service history.
Other than that I can only recommend that you get a complete inspection done by an independent mechanic to see what might be wrong with it. I would look for a local toyota specialist (not a dealer) and see if they do pre-purchase inspections.

I just looked at your other post where you linked to the car you're looking at. It lists the VIN there so I took it to the Toyota Owners website like I said and the customer brought it to the dealer to have the timing belt changed and then there's a comment that says "Engine has a chain - no work done." So nothing really happened. Other than that there's no service listed by Toyota.

Imcalled and spoke to a woman in the service dept. and she informed me otherwise. I asked her three times to read what it said and all three times she could not clearly read the 6 words on the screen so I got frustrated and just asked outright...."did the timing chain get replaced?" and she replied yes. I reall y geet upset when unqualified people get to a position of importance and cannot answer simple questions. Thank you for your research. It has most helpful.

It only has a timing chain, only the iForce 4.7L V8 has a timing belt. (The V8 VVTI and non VVTI)
If the truck has a V6..then it's a chain..PERIOD...
Don't TRUST Carfax...They even admit that their data is NOT always accurate...And they accumulate less then 2% of all service done on all vehicles in the US.
As "jimithing" pointed out....The service shows that it was brought in for a timing belt change, but it wasn't done because it has a chain....The data inputted into Carfax was type of work done....Garbage in..Garbage out....

Well I bought it....
It was a good deal. It had been on the lot for 45 days and they wanted to move it. I picked her up for 9500 and got 500 more on my trade than I had anticipated. So....I am now part of this family. I have owned an 03 Element, 06 Titan, 01 Frontier, and now this and every single car I buy I sign up to their respective forum to check them out. Anyway thank you all for the help.
