about a year ago i started watching the forum and now im ready to buy. i was looking at getting a 4th gen at first but have talked with the family and i think im going to get a new 5th gen.i wanted a trail edition but 4k more is not something i can do, so an sr5 seems to fit most of my needs as an suv. at the age of 20 im trying to get the best price but still get what i want and not make compromises. with all the options i want/need i am looking at a price around 36,400. from what i have been reading, people have been able to get 4k to 4.5k off the sticker price. so is 32k for an sr5 possible and if not would it be hard to get close to that number? any info or advice on buying would be great

Depends on what options you're looking at, but getting an SR5 for $32k is feasible.

I was able to get my Trail Edition with KDSS in March for less than invoice in an area were both the T4R and Trail Editions are fairly popular. You should be able to do the same for the SR5 if you're any good at haggling. Since the end of the model year is upon us, it should be even easier if you get a 2012. For a 2013 you'll have a harder time working the deal. Both are the '12 and '13 will be new and of the same generation so no real difference in the truck itself. The only issue will be trade-in value based on Blue Book value since the 2012 is going to be a year old very soon it will initially be worth less than a 2013. If you plan on keeping your truck for a long time it won't make any difference by the time you go to trade it in if you take care of it.

Best of luck on getting what you want at the price you think is fair.

went to mcgeorge toyota in richmond and found one that i want. going to go back later in the week or next weekend to work on a price.also went to mechanicsville toyota and got a price of 33,500 so i will work on that and try to get one from mcgeorge toyota for as close to 32k as i can

write down 32K on a piece of paper and give it to em. Tell em that's what you have and if they can't help ya, you will take your business else where. That's how I got my trail.

so do you think 32k for an sr5 with floor mats, roof rack rails, and mud flaps is possible?
might also get the hood deflector but im putting that on if i get it

You are wise beyond your years. Good job. You realize what you can and can't do financially. Keep working, keep saving. It will happen. Be safe.

i should be able to pay one off in 4 years so an sr5 is what im getting. it will be a big upgrade from my crown vic

Congrats. When I was 20 yrs old I was a poor college student and I think I had a '71 Ford Pinto that had no heater and a drivers side door that did not open.
I'm 51 and own 2 Insurance Companies and I'm awaiting a 2012 T4R LE

I got my '12 SR5 4x4 for just at 33k and that was going through AAA car buying service. I looked at going through USAA too and it worked out to about the same.

I don't want to rain on your parade but don't forget about affording the insurance payments for a brand new vehicle, too.

I got $2700 off the window sticker, but the dealer had to swap with another dealer to get my options and color. You may be able to do better if you are willing to take what they have on the lot, but $4k - $4.5k seems like a lot to ask for (at least here in SoCal). As price and options go down, so does their profit.

they have what i want on the lot and i think i can get it for the price i want. and yes i also have thought about insurance and got it all worked out. my dealer has 42 4runners on the lot so finding what i wanted was easy

42! wow. Dealers around me have 2, 3, maybe 5.
I have a buddy that owns a Dealership (blessing and a curse) He takes great care of me but, I don't ****er with a buddy. The service and relationship is more than worth the couple hundred bucks I MIGHT get if I had a haggler situation.
I figure out what I want and he redirects one to his dealership for me that way it is fresh off the boat/truck no test drives or lot rot.
Looking forward to the Black/Black LE (power running boards and JBL stereo)
had those things which was fine. Going to black out the windows and maybe (for once) just drive a rig for awhile without ****ing with it.

There have been a few recent threads on pricing, at least for the new '12 LE. I picked mine up this week! The Costco price was about 7% off MSRP, most dealers in the Northeast were 7-8% off with their ePrice, and I got more than 10% off---the same as a few others in the forum too. If you can settle for a '11 or '12 Demo from the dealer with low miles you can probably get 15-17% off. I had some luck searching with www.cargurus.com.

Not that its any of my business but i'd encourage you to put at least half down. I remember when I was 20. I was doing ok and could technically afford a nicer car than i should have purchased.

make sure before you purchase such an expensive vehicle that you have the following:
1) 4-6 months of full expenses including the estimated payments of this vehicle.
2) a very secure job or circumstances that will allow you to see this purchase through to the end of the payments.
3) a full quote from your insurance company for the vehicle by its unique vin number. (this way your generic quote doesnt transform into a shocker post purchase)

I have no right to say this is or isnt too much for you. I dont know you or your circumstances however I sure wish someone had given me some guidance when i was younger to temper my enthusiasm for cars.

ive owned new plymouths to new porsche's and none of them were good "investments" and the more you spend the more you lose over time. However the more capable they are when you use them.

GL on whatever you do.

I will make a phone call today to my insurance company to find out how much it will be. That is the one thing I have not thought about

Not sure if there are any incentives right now on '12s but don't forget the dealer holdback that takes the cost $1000 - $1500 under invoice. So I would recommend seeing invoice, shave $500 off that then subtract any incentives (again, no idea if there are any) and use that as a goal for final price
