Looking for a Trail Edition

I see TE's often up here in the Northeast. There are a couple (Salsa Red, Silver, and a Mag Gray) that I see rolling around my local area.
I drove down to Long Island earlier this week for work and saw half a dozen stock ones down there....mostly Magnetic Gray.

I was up in Maine 2 weeks ago on the coast, and saw two up there.

If I were you, I would call the dealers up here NY/NJ and North and do a fly and drive....they must be available because I see a bunch up here.....and we have plenty of trails to use our gadgets on...yeah right!

When I purchased mine, I had negotiated a great deal (new price and trade-in value) but never actually committed to it. Then, when my car started having some issues I ran to the dealership to do the deal. The TE was sold, and they said they would honor the deal on a limited. I asked if they could locate one, none were around, none were on the boat..forget it.

A week later I stopped by, they asked me what I was doing there? I said "Have you found me a Trail yet? They said, "there are none available, but hold on". My salesman came back out of his bosses office and said "We'll do a search again, they just changed some model #'s, but you have to give me multiple colors to search because of the options I wanted".

Five minutes later, he came back and asked if I would take silver. I said sure, and he had the car to me 3 days later.

Be patient, call the Northeast, and get what you want!

It's all bull anyway! I understand regional allocation, but any dealer will get you whatever you want as long as there is a profit to be made somewhere in the deal!

If you want, send me a personal message and I will give you my salesman's and dealerships name.

In fact, maybe it was Sandcrawler I saw....if he/she was driving through Rockland Maine a few weeks ago.
i don't think that was me (he). i was driving through western Maine last week, though... since i got my Trail last march, i've only seen two others: a silver and another salsa red. :D

How would you guys suggest selling my car if I got one shipped from the NE? Does carmax offer good prices?

I keep trying to list my ad on craigslist, but it won't show up in the searches. I think it's being ghosted.

Carmax does NOT offer good prices. I went there for S&G's, and they "offered" (more like offended) me several thousand less than what I actually got.

If you want to save time then Carmax can be a good option. The market is crazy volatile but they usually give you the most dealership wise. That's what I did and they gave me KBB trade-in value which was $4k more than what Edmonds trade-in value was. Most dealerships go the Edmonds appraisal route since it shows that your vehicle is worth less. :whipping2

I didn't want the hassle of selling private party even though it would have saved me a couple thousand. I also lost the trade-in tax savings since I bought out of state, but it was all worth it. The TE is rare and is badarse! Good luck! I'll send you any Trail classifieds I come across.

Thanks TrailTex! Yea, I was looking at the taxes in Colorado, and apparently they only tax the difference in trade-in. That is nice since my car is almost new. In Oklahoma, they make you pay tax on the entire car. Might be worth it to go and trade my car in in Denver now.

2011 Trail Editions in the New England region do not have the KDSS option. So you might want to look in other regions if you want that option.

Within the last two years sold two cars: (1) a 2004 Honda Civic, carmax offered me $8000, Edmunds said it was worth about $11,500, I then went the private route, ****ed around for a month as people would call and then cancel. Finally sold privately for $9000. I walked away $1000 richer but don't know if it was worth it. (2) a 2003 MINI Cooper: Carmax offered $6000, MINI dealer offered $5750 for a trade in on a 2011 MINI. Took the dealer's offer to save time.

Short summary: You'll get more if you sell it privately, but you have to hassle with email, phone calls, test drives, negotiating selling price, etc. etc.

Wow, that is a weird one. Also, shows that Navi is not an option either. Guess that makes the 2010's w/kdss and navi extra special :trophy::trophy:

Holy smokes! Currently, TE's seem to be (comparatively) all over the dealer lots here in central/lower Colorado. For the longest time, TEs appeared to be a rare commodity (even before the earthquake). My local dealer has a Salsa and a Shoreline, both with KDSS. Colorado Springs has 4-5 of them on their lot. The OP may want to take a trip to CO.

My dealer here in Cincinnati has only one 4Runner on the lot - and it's a demo. They tracked down my TE (pick it up tomorrow) in Illinois.

I asked why they don't have any and specifically why there aren't any TEs within 200 miles. They just shrugged shoulders on the TE thing but said that they treat 4Runners as seasonal stock - like Christmas trees. Demand driven. Winter comes and people want them.

Yea, I plan on checking them out in Colorado. I just don't want to drive 11 hours unless I have something solid to deal with. If I drive out there without a deal, then I can be boss hogged into a deal that is less than desirable.

Let me know if you see any cheap Silver TE's up there desertred!

If you're willing to travel, a number of dealers in Phoenix presently have Trails.

I'll be there next weekend to do the deal. Working with Camelback and Larry Miller Toyota.
