Looking for self-dimming side mirrors!

I get massive glare from some vehicles and I'm on the highway quite often. I know some vehicles have the self-dimming mirror on the side mirrors like my buddy's Ford 150 has it on the driver's side.

I would pay a lot to have this feature, it drives me bonkers! Does it even exist or does a Lexus or another Toyota vehicle have this feature I could get something modded up?

It's cheaper and easier to:

1- Tint your side windows to cut down on glare.

I agree. I have always run tint on my vehicles and never had an issue. I have yet to tint this one (3 years and no time, go figure), but it will happen. It was always such a 'shock' to go from a tinted side window to driving one that was not at night. I'm sure the auto dimming would be great but the tint would be cheaper and make you just as happy.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd spend the money on auto-dimming but the tint sounds like a temporary solution until I can figure something out (which I'm still very open to). Is there a specific percentage or colour I should be looking at for this? Will tinting the mirror affect it if I have the mirror heater on during the winter?

Cheers.

Tint is a solution but adjusting them properly is the best solution. I drive 2.5K/month or so. I have no issues with lights blinding me.

Don't tint the mirror... tint the side windows.

FWIW I can't stand any of the auto-dimming mirrors. I'd rather have clearer visibility at all times. +1 on aiming your mirrors correctly. There's no reason headlights should be blinding you unless these are aimed improperly or you have a monster truck on your tail.

Properly aiming your mirrors will go a long way, but it does not always eliminate the problem... especially when you're on multiple-lane highways and the fools behind you have headlights that aim anywhere but the road. And if you're "lucky" enough to live in a state that prohibits any tinting on driver's side window, you're really just out of luck.

I had dimming mirrors before and I wish I had them now, but not enough to justify the costs of adding them.

Forget the tint. What you need is a lift kit, preferably ICON stage4, to get you out of that glare.

For safety's sake, I mean. :bigok:

Alright guys so I checked on other Toyota's and it turns out the Tacoma and Sequoia Platinum editions have auto-dimming exterior mirrors. They even have a couple other features that mine don't have.

Any able to get a part# for these and maybe a price? I wonder if wiring would be a nightmare, although I have power/heated mirrors now...

I don't think anyone has brought this up yet but just tint your windows. :)

It'll help more than you're thinking and save some headache. I just tinted my fronts to closely match the factory rear tinted glass. Never an issue with headlights in side mirrors now.

i know lexus's.. well most of them have it.. my 98 GS had auto dimming side mirrors.. i liked it.. it had a a lil blue tint like the european cars do.. i wish the 4runner had them.. but yea i'm good with aiming my mirrors so i'm fine!

Tinting the front windows gets a lot of attention from the cops here and personally don't want to bother with it. Going to talk to Toyota and see if I can even retrofit either mirror on there. I'm keeping this vehicle forever, might as well set it up how I see best even if it costs me a bit to do it.

I will use that article to see if my mirror alignment is out of whack though. Thanks!

One of the features I really miss from my Tundra!

Unfortunately front window tinting is illegal in my area. Maybe not the best advice to give to everyone as it is illegal in many areas.
