- alright guys i have been in the market for a vehicle for a couple of months now, and honestly im sick of small cars and the only SUV i like is the 4 runner.. well to my luck a friends sister happens to be selling her 2006 sr5 2wd with 146,000 miles she wants 11k but i told her all i had was 9k and she agreed to it. is this a good deal? should i buy this thing? what all should i look for? i already knowit needs new front calipers and the door panels need to be fixed due to dog's digging into it with their nails but over all it is a pretty clean looking truck. the only thing that worries me is the millage but i also know toyotas last forever, well atleast the older ones do. so please give me some insight

A bit more info.
This generation 4runner has turned out to be in my opinion, as good an in some cases, superior to past versions. I had a 1990 4runner, and while it was a great vehicle, that generation had engine issues with the V6 that hurt it.
Anyway. The point is that at 146k, if taken care of, that runner will be a great friend. I wouldn't walk away due to age on a vehicle with the reputation the 4th gen has built. It has minor issues. Brake Calipers like to seize up, but it is an easy fix. Other than that, the engines and transmissions (the BIGGIES!) have proven to be rock solid. In my opinion, if the vehicle has shown to have rock solid major components (engine, tranny, driveline, diff's) then minor issues can be addressed. Modern cars are complex, things like wipers going bad happen.
I suggest you have it inspected by your local toyota dealer. They all offer a "used car" inspection. Costs about 100 dollars and they will check it, as if they were certifying it. Ask them to throw it up and check the frame for damage. Make sure you find a dealer that does body work, so they have people in the shop with experience. An experienced body mechanic can take one look and tell you. There are tell tell signs that show up. Any used car comes with risk, but having a dealership trained in that vehcile giving it a clean bill of health will go a long way to make sure you get a quality vehicle.

Are you ok with a 2wd? Many people make the mistake of buying quick vs. waiting and then regret getting the 2wd. If you don't care, go for it.
