Looks like I am going to the dark side

Trail package brings a lot to the table...you may have to spend more aftermarket to get the equivalent. I thought that the JBL in the 5th gen is amazing??? Is it bad? Bilsteins are bilsteins...sure, you can spend $$$$ for the 5100 series or something, but how many of you ACTUALLY need 5100s??? Most of my off-roading (in my former life) was low-speed crawl over rocks and so on. Even with my stock shocks (on my 3rd gen) and my Bilsteins (on my G500), i never experienced shock fade nor shock leak. Never. And with the OEM Bilstein's monotube design, shock fade should be hard to come by (as is foaming). I am sure that the standard OEM Bilsteins (still monotube, still same technology as 5100s) can handle most off-roaders on this forum. Yeah, if you do a lot of high speed desert runs, then yeah, you may consider 5100s or whatever. Now, if you lift your vehicle, then i agree with aftermarket shocks, but then again, i am not a fan of modifying suspension factory specs either (another story, another thread).

Toyota went to Tokico shocks on the 5TH Gen. TE's in lieu of the Bilsteins used on the 2009 TE's. I changed a set out on a TE .They are US made shocks with the factory in Kentucky. Company - Tokico Performance Shocks

I appreciate your posts Thai. You're right that I forgot the 4th gen Trails came with a locker. Like you pointed out, they are hard to find, almost like Bin Ladin haha.

I would love to see the Hemi in the Wrangler! I know you have commented in the past that you don't dislike the current V6 they use, but I live in the mountains and have lots of friends that have them and honestly, all of them want more power. I have ridden up the mountain several times in them and they're weak IMO. The 4-doors are painful. But a diesel? I would definitely consider that just as much as a Hemi.

I see your points. I can understand that.

Yeah, where i live, it is flatonia! (There is actually a city called FLATONIA near where i live! :D )So, i can see where the V6 would suffer in the mountains. Seemingly, Jeep in the US will fit in the new V6 (in the new GC) in the Wrangler in the near future...or so say the rumor mill. No diesel apparently. :( I wonder if the new V6 (Penstar?) will be better...and i sure hope that they fit in a 5-speed auto, instead of that junky 4-speed auto from a Chrysler car! :toilet3: In the rest of the world, you can get a 5-speed auto (from Mercedes? If so, then it is a GREAT 5-speed!) and a 2.8 diesel described above. Someone please *****slap Jeep USA or whatever branch is over here! :sobbing:

Just like to issue an apology to the forum for my back and forth, it had no place in the open, it takes a LOT to get under my skin, unfortunately there are a couple people in this world who manage to do it very well.

Anyway :) Onward we go, here is to full tanks of fuel and open trails (and on topics posts) :) Its the weekend, let's get dirty!

Apology accepted. And thanks for the compliments. I didn't know that I was that good! Seriously, who would have know it was so easy to get under your skin?

They are already using a 5-speed automatic, so why would they go with a 4-speed? And next year they are supposed to be moving to a 6-speed auto, with gear ratios that are said to be perfectly suited to the new V6 HP/TQ curve.

uhhh, no. We're talking about the Wrangler...please re-read what i wrote and note the context...it still has the 4-speed auto. See: Jeep - 2010 Jeep Wrangler - Capability - Powertrain

Jed, you need to slow down with your arguments...you're in over your head!

I realize that you were talking about the Wrangler...so was I. What I'm saying is that when they move to the new V6 in the Wrangler (the one already in the Grand Cherokee), it will at least have a 5-speed auto or even the new 6-speed auto that is due out next year.

You should have understood what I was saying, especially since you said this: "Seemingly, Jeep in the US will fit in the new V6 (in the new GC) in the Wrangler in the near future".

Now how would you ever think that they would put the new V6 in the Wrangler and back it with a 4-speed auto when Jeep is already using a 5-speed auto in the new Grand Cherokee and is supposed to be going to a 6-speed auto soon?

Apology was not directed at you or for you in any means, and I would never compliment you, Just wanted to clear that up, thanks. Hope you enjoyed your 2 day vacation :)

Wow, thanks for clearing that up. I couldn't have figured that out on my own. But still, you did exactly that even if you didn't mean to.

This is too easy!

BTW, I decided to take three. No problem....

Source? Or are you just guessing?

From the horse's mouth:

"Quadra-Drive II®
Quadra-Drive II's active full-time 4WD system is the ultimate for virtually any driving situation. This system uses the Quadra-Trac II® transfer case and Electronic Limited Slip Differentials in both axles, offering excellent tractive performance. Quadra-Drive II also features a 2.72 LOW-RANGE and NEUTRAL."

And as stated by me previously, QDII is far far from being an off-roader's wet dream. It is for mild off-roading at best. Before you post arguing me this point Jed (which i know that you will), please see: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/comparisons-reviews/57-jeep-grand-cherokee-horror-stories.html

More specifically, you need to check this: QuadraDrive Check the video clips...pretty funny and sad at the same time! :toilet:

This is why i am very happy that the Rubicon does not have QDII.

Thai, that's exactly why I asked. That's the same description that Jeep had for their QDII system for years now. Nothing has changed in that description, yet Jeep claims that the QDII system (as well as QTII and QTI) has been revamped on the 2011 GC.

And actually, there's some buzz on the Jeep forums that the new QDII system doesn't even have the ability to "lock" the front as the past systems have done.

Packaging issues may prevent such...chrysler minivans with the 3.8 has had 5-speeds and 6-speeds autos...the Wrangler with the same engine is stuck with the 4-speed. Is there a reason for this? I don't know...but seeing how many owners are unhappy with the 3.8, i would assume that if a 5-speed or 6-speed would fit under there, Jeep would have done it by now.

The other interesting thing is that the 2011 Wrangler still does not come with the new V6, despite rumors suggesting otherwise for months now. Packaging issue? Hell, for 2011, Jeep made major changes (midlife revision?), yet stuck with the same 3.8/4-speed powertrain. You gotta wonder why....

And no Jed, your post does not imply that you even knew what the Jeep Wrangler has! Anyway, the new V6 is 4.0L, so it may even be bigger than the 3.8L...i don't know if they can fit a 5-speed or 6-speed...i am no engineer, but i would NOT automatically assume that it can be done.

The Electronic part was added recently Jed. And if the new QDII is even worst, then there you go...a ****ty 4wd system made worst!

I remember watching the video made by that guy. I can't find it anywhere now...not sure why.

But still, that's an old video and the 4wd system has changed since then. And now they are changed it again for the new Grand Cherokee. You really should post some updated links instead of living in the past regarding the Jeep 4wd systems.

Recently? LOL, it's been that way for YEARS now! Where have you been?

Really? I have been a Jeep fan for a long time...no, it has not been that way for "years now."

Ok...dude, cool down...you do NOT have to argue with every damn person on this forum. :ybrick:

Thai, this is easy to prove and you know it. If you're a Jeep fan, then you know as well as I do that Jeep's "electronic" QDII has been out for at least 5 years minimum.

Maybe I'll have to look it up for you.
