Loose turn signal bulb

Searched forums but couldn't find my exact issue. Driver side turn signal went out on '04 SR5. Replaced bulb but noticed it was out the next day. Checked again and it appears that the plastic tab that holds the bulb in is cracked, thus the bulb becomes loose and goes out. I've tried searching for that part but only seem to come up with an entire assembly (clear too, mine is amber). Can that part be easily replaced?

Might as well replace this whole socket anyway. It often corrodes and causes new bulbs to burn out quickly.

Same thing happened to me...just need to reseat it, it only goes in one way and you need to make sure it's all the way in. Took me a couple tries and a few swear words... ;)
 
This happened to me and was driving me crazy. It wasn't burning out the bulb, but the bulb would come just loose enough to not light. I replaced the socket and now the problem is gone. The old socket was definitely the problem...you'll see what I mean when you replace yours lol
 
Hi everyone,

Can someone post the instruction on how to replace this socket. Do I just pull the wire out from the old socket and the wire plug directly into the new socket?

Any tips, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for saving me from tearing out those wires. :)

When pulling the plug out of the old socket, is there a tab somewhere, which I need to pry to release it from the socket?

You're welcome. I was sweating that myself the first time.

In the pic there are two pieces plugged together. The bottom is the socket. It plugs into the top piece which has a very prominent square tab shown in the pic. Push that.
 
Thank you for the instruction I was able to remove the plug from the socket without any problem.

Earlier this week the driver side DRL light was out, then the next day it was working again. This is the same bulb which I replaced last December 2012.

Therefore I just want to take the socket and light bulb off to spray it with the electronic cleaner and to put some dielectric grease on both the socket contacts and the light bulb contacts.

When putting the light bulb back into the socket, how do I know it is seated in properly? I read from another post that first you press it in and hear the first click then they have to really really push very hard again to hear the 2nd click. No matter how hard I push it I didn't hear any 2nd click. I even tried to push the bulb in while I have the socket out from the car so that I can have more leverage and use both hands. The light bulb I have is the Sylvania part# 4157NA.

I'm curious how can I tell if the bulb is seated in properly. I look at the bulb itself which has two notches on each side and look at the socket, there are two grooves on each side so that the bulb side notches goes in and on the socket, the grooves come to a point where the light bulb notches will not go any further. I don't see how can the bulb can able to lock into the socket.

Also if I buy a new socket, is there a change in the design to make bulb to lock in easier into the socket ?

After this job was done tonight I turn on the engine to check the lights, both DRL and turn signals are working. I haven't drive around anywhere yet. I guess the real test is within the next several days of driving to see if those bulbs will come loose again.

It's a substantial push to get it to click into place but if it's working I'd have to guess it is seated.

I'd say don't assume there needs to be two clicks. If you pushed hard and it snapped into place, you should be good to go. If you're still unsure, just compare both sides to each other.

THANKS for posting this. Just in the past 2 weeks, my passenger turn signal/DRL went out. Replaced bulb, cleaned contacts, nada (was then a bit intermittent, but mostly dead.) Your last post gave me the right part number. Got the socket from the dealer and I replaced it today - problem solved!

Thanks to all of you who have contributed to this thread. My right turn signal socket (2005 4Runner Sport V8 AWD) has been getting progressively more charred on the inside and thanks to this thread I was able to replace with a Socket Plug 90075-60060 from the dealership for less than $10.

90075-60028 - w/o DRL
90075-60060 - w/ DRL

Thanks to all who posted along with the pics/part #'s as well. Extremely helpful. This problem has dogged me for about 6 months but hoping it is now resolved with the install of a new socket. I am embarrassed to admit that I have used the site to diagnose multiple issues (head gasket leak, burned out on dash board light replacement, rust on tailgate...the list goes on) and finally decided to join and give appropriate formal thanks.

could you recommend a good place to buy a socket? I am currently having this problem.
