i worked for a Honda dealership in Drexel Hill, PA....every car traded in went into the shop and inspected and if there was a problem, it was sent out to a shop and fixed....thats if it wasnt going to auction....so i tell you..go back to dealer and yell and scream

Sorry the dealership you dealt with basically just sold you a white elephant. This is why as a standard practice, if you are ever unsure or can't get the records for the vehicle, always good to ask them if you can have the car seen by an independent mechanic. I did this one time years ago and saved myself a lot of hassle. Turned out this Ford Escape i was going to buy, should ahve just been shot and put out of its misery.

Only reason I didn't take my car in for a pre-inspection was because I was able to track down the service records and spoke with the cousin of the owner who apparently babied the crap out of the 4Runner.

Sorry to hear about your issues.

I do agree that it is the buyers responsibility to have a used car checked out independently before buying. In addition to that, the buyer should do the research on the history of the vehicle.

At least the dealer made good on it.

Thats the troulbe with buying used cars or as the car dealerships like to say "Pre Owned." I'm wondering if its trying to get away from the dude in the cheap ass suit named "Honest Bob's Used Cars" haha

But truthfully with alot of us who have bought our dream car, our beloved 4Runners, finding one thats been taken care of and not abused is a huge roll of the dice. Trust me when I was looking for mine, I must have looked over over twenty 4Runners before i found THE ONE.

But absolutely, work through it, it'll all be worth after you get it working perfectly Then you can come on here week or months from now bragging about how many cool mods your truck has

I had a lot of feelings and experiences you had. I found a few things that were not right and the dealership fixed it. Never bought a used car like that. I hate buying cars for that very reason. But in the end I ended up like you. With a fixed car and a little wiser.

I had gotten into an accident with my previous vehicle which had been paid off. The other guys insurance company totaled my vechicle and gave me $6300, which went to the 4runner. After all said and done I am paying about $9300, at around 5% interest for 5 years.

For even more peace of mind you should probably get the fluids changed out: coolant, differential(s), engine oil, transmission; and maybe power steering and brake fluid. Oh, and grease the drive shaft, too. Just a suggestion.

+1, I would always factor the extra cost of changing all the fluids into any used vehicle purchase. Also, if you ever buy another used car you should ask if they mind if you get it inspected by a third party mechanic. It can save you a lot of money in the long run.

I bought my 08' last winter at a dealership in Cape Cod. When i had the 45k maint. done not long after, the tech called me and told me the diff. fluids and PS should ALL get flushed AND a new battery. I was pissed, cuz i bought it at 43900 miles.

Long story short, i *****ed. I got the Cape dealership to reimburse me.
