Love my T4R but do feel jealous of...

Just out of curiosity, I decided to test drive the new Jeep Grand Cherokee today. I have to say that I was definitely impressed with
a) The responsive engine
b) The numerous additional technology features like
1) Adaptive cruise control
2) Blind spot monitoring system
3) Rain sensing wipers
4) Memory seats and other memory options
5) The leather trimmed interior- very little plastic
and there were several more features that I can't remember of that I wish my $ 40000 Limited also had.
I would never trade my T4R beast for a Jeep, but I am just saying that I do feel a little jealous:gun6:
What do you guys think?

Will733- what you say about the JGC technology may be very true. In fact as the salesman was getting ready to start the Jeep- it started showing an error message in the dash saying 'the key is not inside the vehicle' (this JGC had a button start option like the Limited) and would not start. The salesman had to turn everything off and then 'reboot' it sort off to get rid of the message.

I just traded my GC Limited in for my T4R last week. The heep was a mess. It was always broke. The engine ran strong, never gave me any issues. It was just everything else.

That was my second Jeep and it will be my last... except for a CJ as a toy someday.

Go over to Jeepgarage.org and check out the WK2 forum and see all the problems they are having. I did the Jeep thing already......never again, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice? You can polish up a t**d hang it from a gold chain and make it real pretty ....but it's still a t**d.

The only thing I'll comment on is the rain sensing wipers. With the ones I had I found they would randomly turn on on clear days and I'd always have to turn them up when it was raining hard. As far as I'm concerned they were a waste of time.

Well maybe if they put the money they spent on all that crap towards the drive-train and engine it might be a half decent vehicle.

I agree with you on the technology on the Jeep. We test drove a new Grand Cherokee and limited 4runner. My wife cannot reach the lift gate on the 4runner because they did away with the strap, she feel in love with the electric hatch on the Jeep, the electric tilt and telescoping steering and memory seats. I feel in love with the hemi, the v6 will not get it for me. You should have seen the look on the Toyota salesmans face when she told him she wanted to test a 4runner with more features and the saleman had to say the limited she drove is the best Toyota offers. I am waiting to see what the 2012s offer. I most likely will end up with the Jeep knowing I may have problems keeping the wife happy and will probably not keep it as long as I kept my 03 4runner. I have a 91 Jeep wrangler that I beat the crap out of in the desert and it has had surprisingly few problems in 20 years. I would pay 4-5K more for a more loaded 4runner and forget about the Jeep. I will not buy a Lexus because the closet dealer is 3 hours from me and I am a redneck and not good enough to have a Lexus.

My T4R was supposed to be a GJC. The only reason we ended up getting a T4R was because of the rear window roll-down feature......THE ONLY REASON.

I'm a big fan of the new GJC regardless what others on this forum thinks. As with any loyal brand following, people will rave about their brand and bash the other. I love both Toyota and Jeep.....they both make great off-road capable vehicles!

Put your Jeep dealer's service dept. on speed dial, you will be on a first name basis with the service manager in no time. Your 91 Wrangler was built by a different company,before the Daimler/Cerberus-post bailout/bankruptcy/Fiat fiasco. Good luck.

I loved my 99' JGC, it was a very capable vehicle both on and off road. The trouble was it just wasn't reliable, and the resale value was horrible. If there was a better midsize SUV for the same price as the T4R......I'd own it, no matter what brand or country of origin.

As a fellow Jeep owner (3 GC in past 3 years) I have to say I've been so much more pleased with my 4runner than the Jeep. The jeeps were always in the shops for repair...

I agree that the new Jeep Grand Cherokee has some really nice features and I really like the interior......but......it's a Jeep...a Chrysler....and that means total unreliability in my book.

Long live the mighty 4Runner, along with its incredible reliability, quality, and durabilty!

I also am a fan of the Jeep GC and the potential longevity of ownership that could be experienced, if the reliability was there. However, similar to TOYSTRY, the main reasons I bought the 4Runner over another vehicle was due to the roll down rear window (fits my needs) and Toyota reliability. I have a Jeep XJ with 233K that I use regularly. I have to love the education it has provided at DIY repairs (including an engine swap). However, if I had to rely on a service department to conduct the repairs, the XJ would have disappeared a long time ago due to the associated labor costs. As it stands right now, its time to rebuild the steering linkage, ball joints, brake system, and wheel bearings. But, it is a 23 year old vehicle with 233K on it.

Researching the new JGC, its scary to watch some of the videos out there showing water pouring out of the overhead console from leaks around the sunroof.

I have to agree with all of you. The reliability was the BIGGEST reason why my wife and I decided to buy the T4R ( of course it also fit our needs perfectly). My wife used to own a Camry that lasted forever and we actually sold it to add to our down payment for the T4R beast. And despite being 10 years old the Camry sold for about $4600!
Long live the T4R- I can make my peace with some of the absent new technology in exchange for the reliability.

Fiat running things will be an improvement. The Germans ran away from Chrysler the same way they ran away from Southwestern Rail in the UK - "you're too messed up for us to help you." Daimler is still trying to deal with the contagion in their product line.

Everybody is good enough to have a Lexus, it's just a Toyota to the rest of the planet. Seriously. And if you make the right noises at the dealer, they'll let your Toyota dealer service it too. A GX can be had in the price range you stated.
