Lower Control Arm Bushing Question

Just got mine. I'm kind of worried. 1 Bolt has 826-8 cams on it but the other has 826-2 and 826-3. Isn't it supposed to have a 3 and 4? The blots seem to fit into the bushings fine though. Are the numbers different thicknesses or sizes? Also is there supposed to be any play at all in the bushings with the bolts through. I have a very small amount.

Edit: OK after some digging around it seems that the 2 and 3 cams are the newest version in this kit. The instructions still have the older numbers on them. At least that is according to this thread

The numbers I got were two 826-8s and a 826-2 and 826-4. According to the taco post these will work. I'll probably be fine

Lower control arm bushings and ball joints replaced and I still have my popping sound coming from my suspension. Everything up front is basically new the only thing I haven't checked were the bearings but I doubt that's what the issue is. I'm stumped at this point and any info would be extremely helpful

Popping

I have some popping at slow speeds over speed bumps and other uneven ground. Sounds like it's coming from the driver side. I noticed a tear in the UPPER ball joint boot. Looks like most/all of the grease inside is gone. Gonna replace it and see if that's the cure. Did you check your uppers???

Few other things to check, too:
- Wheel bearings: Drive in circles at full lock (do it both ways) at a slow speed, and if you hear grinding, it's typically the bearing on the opposite side of where you hear it, as the sound is traveling under the vehicle. It can also be seized calipers, so jack the truck up, check the wheel's spin for roughness and play, and THEN the brake calipers to see if they're moving the pads correctly. Also, get up to about 40 mph, and brake without hands on the wheel, and see if it pulls one way or another. Per @emilianenkov's instructions.
- Brake calipers: I had a popping sound at slow speed getting up the curb to my driveway, and it was (mostly, still some, need to diagnose that still) cured by replacing the front 2 calipers after finding that they were both seized. (surprised I could brake, lol). If you feel you have little to no initial brake bite, check those. Also as stated previously, do the circle test.
- Sway bar bushings: Just check those. Just check the vertical rod that connects to a bar that carries across the car to another. It's between the CV and the Tie Rod. That's for the front, but for the rear, it should be attached to the frame behind the rear tire on both sides. Check for cracks, wear, deformations, etc. These cause similar symptoms to that of bad LCA/UCA bushings, which are quite a bit harder to "check" over that of the sway bars.

Just trying to help you cut down the tearing apart before you can diagnose the problem.

Update, LCA bushings and ball joints replaced. Driveshaft greased, driven on for 300 miles, and regreased. Still have this popping sound at low speeds. The only other thing that could possibly be the issue are the brakes, which I'm assuming is not the issue because I've had them checked out, and the wheel bearings.

I don't think I've ever been more frustrated with anything in my life and I'm hoping I find the solution to this problem once and for all..

Did you ever change the sway bar bushings? Im pretty sure that's what was causing mine. You couldn't move it by hand but then I hooked up my Go-Pro and saw how much it moved.

Hey guys, so I picked up the energy suspension kit and went to install it last night. My problem is while cutting the sleeves, I slipped and hacked off more than I should have, ruining the washer. My question is this: do the MOOG bushings include the outer sleeve for installation? If thats the case I'd like to go ahead and air chisel the outer sleeve out to get it ready. Thanks in advance.

The moogs come as a full assembly. So you can just cut the old ones out and install these and you are good to go. I actually have a set in my garage that I never installed if you want me to send you some pics.

I know this is thread Resurrection but did you ever figure out the cause of this issue? pretty sure I am dealing with the same thing.

ball joint replacement ?

Hi -

Looking to replace lower ball joints. Anyone replace LBJ's as individual units ? Or only replaced entire lower control arm ?

Looks like toyota wants you to buy/replace entire lower control arm which comes with LBJ and bushings.

Has anyone only replace LBJ's ? If yes, could you provide part #

thank you

I used Moog K500017 for my LBJ's. It's listed as the replacement. Look on rockauto.com and it'll give you your options.

Thanks for reply- however I should have stated I was looking for OEM part #.

IIRC, Moog is what you'll find as the OEM replacement for the LBJ (other manufacturers make compatible ones too). Or you can buy the whole LCA from Toyota. They didn't make it easy to bebop into the dealership and pick up a LBJ for the 4th gen...you can't. Pressing was a PITA, the bushings were a PITA, but I refused to buy brand new LCA's because Toyota doesn't offer JUST the LBJ. The only way you'll get a LBJ from Toyota is to get a used one that someone else pressed out. So far I'm happy with the greasable Moog. I actually like the integrated dust boot on them.

I ended up replacing both LCA's.. with OEM toyota LCA's.. which have all the bushings and lBJ already assembled. toyotaofdallas parts was the cheapest I found.
