LSD not performing as hoped

On two recent trips noticed my LSD isn't doing its job and it frustrated me as I had to be recovered from simple little sections. Can you adjust it at all? I have heard good and bad things about toyota LSDs.

What's suggested that I do? I'm getting 1 wheel on traction and the other wheel stutters and try's to spin momentarily but that's about it. Thanks :)

From what I have read about LSD. Its not that great for real off roading. Your better off getting a true locker. Via arb or elocker
 
LSD isn't working, huh--sounds like the neighborhood dealer is holding out on you. Sorry, couldn't help it. Seriously, limited-slips are not intended for serious 4wheeling, as they only transfer a small percentage of power compared to a locker. They're an okay substitute in the front end (with a true locker in the rear) for those who don't want to pony up the bucks for a selectable locker, as they will still allow good differentiation side-to-side, but don't expect miracles. As turboSR5 mentioned, some models will respond to additives, but check your particular model first before adding anything.
 
Yeh I understand that thy aren't designed for serious offloading but it's not even performing to factory standard. I know that you can get some real nice LSDs I drove mums ex boyfriends hilux and that thing would chirp almost any corner if it wasn't driven like it had a good LSD in it.

I don't think the 4runner ever has a LSD as an option.

You/we need to know what brand/model LSD you actually have. Some have clutch packs that do wear out, most do need an additive to the gear oil.

There aren't actual adjustments, just maintenance to keep them working properly.

i think it started in 05, the tacos had LSD rear ends as an option. it does require special gear oil or regular gear oil with LSD additive. i still have to check if the tundra had LSD but i know for sure tacos had LSD option.
4runner had elocker option only

we still need to know what vehicle the OP has and if he added LSD later or what
 
Never knew they had the LSD option. I know they had the elocker option and I think those xrunners come with LSDs
 
not sure on the x runner. dont really see much of those at work but i have seen a few regular tacos with LSD rear ends. you can tell because they have a sticker that says LSD so you use the right oil. its a mechanical LSD but today they have auto LSD which is more of using brakes to control slip in 07 tundra and pretty much any vehicle with STAR system since its already there
 
Ohhh so like a traction control deal? Haha I'm hardly around tacos but its good to know...all my buddies got 95 and under lol
 
Yea the 07 and up tundra has traction control aka auto LSD lol. Most if not all types of LSD is not good for true off roading.
