LT tire questions

For my Michelin LTX M/S2's, load range E, I emailed Michelin to ask about the proper pressure for my 2010 SR5. They said that 50 psi was optimal. However, that was a bit too harsh of a ride, so I run them at 45 psi and they're perfect for me. 80 psi is for a much heavier load and without that load on them they would wear poorly.

If he was running a "C" loadrange LT tire (6 ply), then you would be correct. But he is running an "E" loadrange LT tire (10 ply) and with a maximum pressure of 80 lbs cold, I believe that he will have to run quite a bit more than 42 lbs. I would think that 50 lbs would be minimum.

All LT tires carry the same load at the same PSI, so C, D or E would be the same pressure. Higher load range tires only carry higher load at higher inflations, 80 vs 65 or 50psi. Of course, the C range tire will have a softer ride than the D and Es at the same pressure.
