Lumbar issues

Part number for 2005 SR5 lumbar motor

Okay, I am going to break down and buy a replacement lumbar motor. I am going on a long road trip and my back will appreciate it. I don't want to be like this at the end of the trip :crutch:

But before I spend an absurd amount of money on the motor would someone kindly tell me if this is the right assembly to order? I have a 2005 SR5 4Runner with no side airbags (not sure if airbags were an option). The part I came up with is part #7276033060.

Not certain, but the price seems about right. I've used camelback toyota before, parts guy was very helpful and they're twenty bucks cheaper.

How soon do you need the lumber motor?

Also if you have some time on your hands, it might be worth it to get in the back of the seat and try and wiggle the lumbar support; I found mine had jammed up when I had my extended warranty replace it.

Hi [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION]. If I could get a motor by this Thursday that would be great (shorter drive to Canada) and my big trip is in a month. Do you have one for sale?

I unzipped the seat cover tonight and tried to wiggle the support bar. I had the engine on and was pressing the switch. If it is jammed, it wasn't breaking loose. Previously, I've taken the entire seat apart and verified that the motor worked but it was probably getting jammed or something.

Why don't you fix the motor yourself? They're dirt cheap to repair. Disassemble, clean the comm in a drill press with some emory cloth, and change the brushes. It'll work for another 10 years.

I like your thinking. We live in a throwaway society and it is good to know a few folks can still do this. Unfortunately, right now I don't really have the time, tools or expertise. And it looks like a forum member has an extra one for cheap.

Also, I have disassembled everything and the motor did work, so the issue is that it is jamming somewhere. Hopefully, a new assembly will fix that.

You might throw your old one of on the free section of the classifieds later. Maybe someone could use it or just play with it to see if they could get it working.
 
Thanks [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION]. The new motor works great so far. Or was it a lightly used motor - it didn't look like screws had been screwed into the the plastic housing so I am guessing it is a new motor.

The install took about an hour and was really simple. Call it an hour and half by the time I found tools and took a short test drive.

I'll post up the old motor for free to see anyone wants to play around with it. The old one "works" but it must bind internally or is not "strong" enough to do the job. I had the seat apart previously and could get the motor working but it would eventually jam. I even bought a new switch because I thought it might be the switch.
 
Seat recline issue

Anyone had an issue with their seat not being able to recline? I have an 06 sport. The seat will incline forward, but will not recline. All the other power options are working on the seat.
 
Old thread but it's being kept alive!

I purchased my 4R with the motor weak already. It's pretty jammed up with dirt, gunk and greased. I cleaned it and it's still very weak. But being an old vehicle, the metal wire that's used as the lumbar support is pretty warn as well.

My solution, I stuffed a few hand towels between the seat back and the lumbar support wire. Fiddle with it until u like it. I may not be able to adjust it, but I have support without having to use a pillow.
 
Wow, hope mine lasts! I'd have to get rid of my truck if mine failed since my backs failed already.
 
Mine just failed today. My wife took my truck and when I drove it today I just couldn't get comfortable. I figured she messed with the lumbar support but when I tried to adjust the switch did nothing. She says she just slid the seat forward which is probably true. maybe it's my back that's changed. Anyone have a lead on a motor that ISN'T $500?

Anyone know the correct part number so I can begin the search?

I had one I sold to a member a while back, I tried to take one apart and see if the motor could be replaced, but the gear reduction set in it makes it almost impossible to do it that way.

Honestly, the motor might actually be good; I found that the little motor doesn't seem to have as much torque as you would think, combined with the stamped gear of the lumbar set-up promotes it to bind a lot.

I was driving to work getting upset How mine also works intermittently. Wonder how hard it is to even remove it

An hour or two at most (removal and re-installation) if you're skilled at dealing with upholstery work. If not it'd probably be a little closer to 3 hours if you remove the seat and take the seat cover and foam all the way off and do your best to learn how to do upholstery work.

My intermittent lumbar issues now appear to be permanent. Lumbar on my 05 SE no longer works. I cannot hear the motor attempting to operate at all.

Where exactly is the lumbar motor within the seat and what is the process for trying to un-jam the lumbar rail without yanking the upholstery apart? I'd like to try the easy solutions before ripping it apart.

UPDATE:
I unzipped the back of my driver seat. The lumbar bar and motor are right there. While pressing the the lumbar (-) switch I gently pulled on the bar. I heard the motor run for the first time in a while. Sounded normal. Then I pressed the lumbar (+) switch. The motor was very weak. This time I pushed on the bar to assist it to it's fully "out" position.

I am not touching that switch again!
