MAF Conversion Wiring? '02 MAF in a '98

Unfortunately it seems any documentation I could find is no longer active, ultimateyota.com seems to be gone. I have an opportunity to get a 2002 air box and MAF for next to nothing so wanted to know if anyone has the wiring chart on it. I think I need to re-pin the connector from what little I've been able to find.

It should open up the air intake considerably for the supercharger if you've ever seen the two side by side.

For me, my maf was on its way out, and I'd rather replace the cheaper, newer style maf than the expensive older style. I had an extra box and maf laying around so it cost me nothing to replace a failing maf haha

Thanks for the photos! That is EXACTLY what I was looking for. So the first two pics show the old wiring order, and the last is the finished product? Looks stock too, so stupid CA smog techs won't think I've messed with the MAF or something.

Any tricks on getting the wiring out without damaging it?

$90 vs $800, I have a 98 and god forbid someday my MAF takes a dump I might have to give this a try. However, I believe certain year Camrys came with that type of MAF so there should be plenty around salvage yards.

I stupidly dropped my MAF during some engine work and broke it. I did this exact thing, got an MAF off a V6 Camry for $45. I was abhorred at the $700+ new prices I found from dealers.

Thanks for the photos! It worked perfectly. Just pry out the white lower part of the connector, release the little black tabs on the bottom of each pin and they push right out.

Started up strong on the first try. I'm really excited to see how the air flow is now on my supercharged 4Runner. The deckplate, combined with the Airraid intake and much, much smaller MAF sensor should allow a whole lot more air in than before.

It's been almost a week and I've noticed a few things with the swap:

The airflow is increased, which is obvious. However, I think how the sensor talks to the ECU is different. I put a 2002 MAF in a 98, and my Long-Term fuel trims appear to be through the roof, at idle or light throttle it's pegged at 19.5 (0 is normal). Mind you, I was already at 7-8 with the Airraid on there.

I expected to get a CEL any day for a system lean issue but it never came. 300 miles later and still no CEL light, or even a code to be seen of any kind. I think the ECU reads it right but my Bluetooth adapter can't make any sense of it. I'm currently 180 miles into another tank and I look to be gaining a little bit of extra mileage on this one, maybe around 19 MPG's or 300+ miles on this tank.

So if anyone does this don't let the readings throw you off. Let the ECU adjust and do it's thing and wait and see.

I did it 5 or 6 years ago and approx 65k. Still works fine.

Just finished this mod and I have to say it was super easy and has a noticeable seat of the pants response. Thank you. much easier than finding a supra MAF and swapping it in. I ordered a cheap CAI for a 2001 ($69) and a new denso AFM for a 2001 ($59) about 45 min to install and boom started right up and runs really smooth.

About 45 min to install including repining the plug. The only thing that was a problem was that the clamps that came with the intake kit were to big but fortunately I had some that were the right size. I may someday update the connecting hoses to silicone but for now it is great. Started up and ran great first crank. More air makes more power :drum:

For those who are thinking of doing this but have emissions testing, my numbers were much, much higher than before. The whole running rich thing is not just a computer glitch, it really does dump on the fuel. I passed, but just a heads up that you might want to keep the old parts to swap back in to bring those numbers back down for the test.

But that being said I have seen my milage drop a fair amount. I have been thinking that maybe I will change out my O2 sensor with a wide band to maybe match the Air flow sensor better. What do you guys think. Can we even get a wide band that will plug into the stock harness?

No, unfortunately there's no wideband that will replace the stock O2 sensors. I'm looking to install one and will add it in addition to the existing sensors.

I think that perhaps your mileage drop is due to the heaviness of your right foot and not the engine
