MAINT light flashing

the "MAINT" light flashes at me a few times on start up then goes away. does this mean anything specific? ie # of times it flashes means something? I couldn't find anything in the manual. it isn't due for an oil change for another 1500 miles, and the oil that is in it looks good to me.
