Maintenance Req'd light flashes for about 10 seconds at start up

My truck is at 4,800 miles, and I feel like a few hundys before that the maint Req'd light began to flash for ten or so seconds upon ignition. Is this indicative of the 5,000 mile service (oil change?), or is this something I should get into shop pronto for? I have an appt. for the 24th of the month, so going in soon anyway.

It is just an early warning light letting you know that the original 5K maintenance is coming due, nothing to worry about.

Now you must decide to do 5K or 10K maint. That is a whole 'nother can of worms here.

As far as Toyota is concerned, the required 5,000 mile maintenance for a normally-operated fifth-generation 4Runner is:

• Check installation of driver’s floor mat
• Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
• Rotate tires
• Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs

Do ALL of your recommended maintenances. You can do them yourself if you want to and it won't void the Toyota warranty. Just make sure you document when you serviced (mileage,date) and what you serviced. Also make note of any parts/fluids you replaced. Although I think Toyota pays for any parts and fluids that are covered in the two-year complimentary Toyota service plan.

Just a curiosity question; does the maintenance reminder light on all 5th gen model years blink every 5K miles? I figured models following 2010 may have increased the interval after correcting the oil change interval to 10K. Maybe they kept it the same due to the other scheduled maintenance items?

My 2011 does it every 5000 miles.

I think they kept it at 5k because there are other maintenance items besides oil change listed at every 5k interval...my 2012 came on at 5k as well.
