Major Design Defect

I just don't care to live in a world like this where everything isn't perfectly symmetrical! Oh the humanity! :sobbing:

I guess I should sell both my vehicles then and invest in a FORMULA ONE car as my DD. At least the driver's seat is smack dab in the middle instead of the left. And I only realize this now?!? Oh the shame of it.

How much do you want to sell that defective piece of junk for anyway????:D

I might be willing to take it off your hands.

you're going to kill yourself if you look in the mirror then.

3500.05? thats just disrespectful to t4r's! I will offer 3501.00! :D

I think I'm related to Monk, and Tery its OK, it would bother me too!!! LOL the air on the drivers side is less clean??? Im hiring a chauffeur!

I also want my gas tank AND my fuel door dead center. What the hell is this "let's put stuff on the left side" crap? AND I want my 2nd row to fold 50/50 not some 60/40 bs. What's with the battery too?!? Enough of this left side bias. I want that in the middle too. My wipers are not symmetrical either, and my muffler is on the right, wtf? I also want a driver's side glove box. Why does the front passenger get one and the driver doesn't? My pedals are shaped differently too, what about those people who are left footed? I want horns on both sides of the radiator. I want a right rear tow hook to compliment the existing left rear tow hook. I also have MAJOR problem with the coin holder - not only is it on the right but all the coins are different sizes. The only thing Toyota got right were the logos. At least they are centered, sheesh.

Since you mentioned it dingo, I want another steering wheel and a set of pedals. Street sweepers and trash trucks in my area have them, my 4Runner is BEYOND defective.

Ok whilst we are bringing up all the Obvious defects Toyota has made us all suffer with for these past years, let me bring up that fact that I agree with Dingo on the whole left hand right hand bias. Why isn't there gear shifts for left handed people here in the states? The Uk/Japan citizens get a left handed gear shift!

And the T4R should realize that on the rare days I have to wear heels, it's darn difficult to manuver in and out of a high SUV with heels. It should list to the right, kinda like a good horse helping your stiff hide up into the saddle. Wait, or is the listing to the one side something we're complaining about?

How about a T4R that changes color with every wash? Like from the Cannonball Run movies when the ladies hosed off the race cars. White Ferrari becomes Red, remember? Kinda like a Gobstopper.
Now there's a real marketing idea!!

Man you guys are coming up with some great stuff! I had thought of some of those other things, but now it's really apparent to me what a POS my 4R really is. I smell class action suit here.

And I really like the idea of it listing to one side for easy access for when I have to wear heels! :girl:

Is it me or is the passenger front seat area the best seat in the house?!!:awais: Better air. More storage spaces. Sit farther from front airbag...and even the front airbag is bigger! And it's the best place for left-handers because the gear shift IS on the left side!

TeryT,

I think you had better crawl underneath your 4Runner with a tape measure. I think you might find that the spare tire might not be centered properly.
It might also actually tilt sightly as well. :D

While you have the tape measure handy check and see if the engine is centered in the engine bay and get back to us with your findings. :D

Gee thanks - I had seen that with the spare tire, but had forgotten it. Now I won't be able to sleep tonight!

You bring up some other good points, but I think the thing here is that these are not readily apparent from the external.

Ruffian has pointed out a valid issue. If geriatric loving commuter buses can kneel down, so should the 4runner. I want that pneumatic farting "phissssh" sound and incessant beeping as it raises itself back up. But noooooo, Toyota, in their asymmetrical/nonsensical genius only decides to put ass-justable airbags on the rear end. Does the front get any love? Sadly no. Their so called adjustable ass suspension. I'm getting into the vehicle through the front door not the rear hatch. And speaking of fore and aft asymmetry, why the hell is there only ONE "back up" camera for the rear? There should also be a "go forward" camera mounted on the front so I can see what is in front of me when my head is turned toward the back with a screen mounted in the rear. Make sense? There should also be a front tow hitch package in case I want to tow in reverse. Toyota? Hello? The wheels on the truck spin round and round, forward and back, FORWARD and BACK. Silly engineers.

And while color changing mood paint may be ideal for evading and confusing persuing law enforcement vehicles, this may not be good on rainy days. My 4runner may end up looking like a tie-die hippie shirt if it doesn't rain hard enough.

Thai has a great point. Even the front passenger has his/her own overhead assist handle. Does the driver get his/her own overhead assist handle? -NO! The driver is instead rewarded with idiot flashcards in his/her visor on how to switch to 4LO. Toyota's subtle way of saying, "Hey stupid, since we know you'll never read the manual, here's the cliff notes version, (stupid)". To add insult to injury, they place a picture of some poor stick figure oaf getting reemed by the airbag. "Don't lean on airbag, 4runner no likey, it go punch you in face". And speaking of the 4WD shift knob - what's with the low quality plastic feel? It should be beefy and sturdy to the touch. It should be made of billet machined aluminum, not chinsy plastic. I'm shifting into 4WD or 4LO, not turning on an easy bake oven timer. And it does so with a cheap "click". It should go "BOOOOOM!!!". Might as well paint pink and put Hello Kitty stickers on it... *gasp* Mod idea!

And that pull down handle for the rear hatch? RIGHT side! Asymmetry! Asymmetry! I want TWO - one on the right AND left! It's like winking, if you use both eyes at the same time it has double the effect. I know that Japanese art and culture is greatly expressed through asymmetry in paintings, etc. but come on! Don't get me started on the shifter gate. It looks like an asymmetrical nightmare.

Ladies and gentlemen, let us bow our heads in shame for investing in such a piss poorly engineered POS.
