Silentyoda... the simple answer (for me) is that your allways turning your CV's under load with ADD. Manual hubs eliminate this. They are only under load when you lock the hubs in. If I remember correctly, when I did mine I pulled the vacuum hoses off and plugged them (just to keep crud out) I also remember reading that with auto hubs you have to get an additional spacer but with ADD hubs you just remove and bolt the manuals on. Thanks, well the forum post on yota tech i believe showed the exact same setup as me and didn't mention anything additional to just switching the hubs. I just wanted to check to make sure, because i'd rather know before hand than mess something up haha
 
ADD-Hubs are permanently connected to the shafts. The pass shaft is connected to the diff. The driver shaft rides in a coupling. This coupling is connected to the driver half shaft that is connected to the diff. The diff is connected to the t-case thru the forward driveshaft.

ADD 2WD - When moving, the pass wheel turns the pass shaft. Since it is always connected to the diff, the diff turns. Since the diff is connected to the forward shaft, the forward shaft turns. The t-case is already spinning providing mechanical force to the rear wheels. The driver wheel turns the half shaft but remember it is not connected to anything because it is riding in the coupling. Consider this all "free-wheeling." Nothing is providing mechanical force to make the drive train components turn. It is all turning by inertia.
Yesterday I pulled the passenger side front wheel and took the Hub flange off. When I turned the brake disc the forward drive shaft did not move. Only the CV joint and right side shafts moved.

What kind of load are you considering? The CV joints aren't being driven. They follow the movement of the flange and wheel. There is no power in ADD until the differential connects to the static front axle shafts and power is provided through the transfer case when you switch from 2H to 4H. I inspected my ADD system vacuum components yesterday. Although when you first find out about how this 4 wheel drive works, it seems too complicated and easily fouled, all you really have to worry about would be that the 2 vacuum tubes are connected and in working order.

With ADD they disconnect at the differential so whenever your wheels are turning the cv's are turning. With manual hubs they disconnect at the wheels so you are turning the wheels without turning the cv's. Thats my understanding anyway,could be wrong...


Silentyoda, where are you in Washington? If your close enough, come over and I will give you a hand putting them on if you have asins's.

I'm up in tacoma haha, you're pretty close. It'll take me like 15 mins to put them on. just wanted to make sure i didn't have to change anything else. we should hit some trails up though
