Manual shift t-cases?

Also semi positive crawl control cannot be engaged prior to being in 4lo so that doesn't really ad up.

correct. multi-terrain can use like the first two settings in 4Hi, but the rest are 4lo only and like you stated crawl control is also 4lo only

maybe they just mean the ABS module makes all the noise trying to make the car go that slow if you're testing it on pavement or something?

I think the dude that says his manual shift lever is so smooth he can't tell if it's in or not (TWSS) must have his linkage unattached or something. Mine is harder to get into 4hi and feels more grindy doing it than my 3rd gen.

I'm that dude just tried again. Smooth as butter.

I do admit I had a Tundra previously and it was just a dial. So I wouldn't be able to compare it.

2013 Trail with 97k miles.

Goes in and out of 4hi nice and easy. 4 low requires a little bit more attention, probably because I don't use it often..

I find the trick to a much smoother 4-Lo shift s to shift intro N with the vehicle still moving, even a walking pace will do. Shift quickly and firmly into 4-Lo, and it goes in like buttah.

When I first got mine I got some grinding and it was not butter. After using it frequently it definately git smooth. I still give it a good shove but no longer grind.

All this talk of grinding and shoving and sliding it in like butter... I thought this thread was supposed to about transfer cases. Unsubscribed.

So quick question does this TC function the same as my old TJ with an NP 231? Are the sensors simply to indicate that you have hit 4WD/4LO or is this the case that if the sensors fail you don't have 4wd? I know if the sensor failed on my NP231 (it never did) it didnt matter because I felt and knew when I was in 4 HI and 4 LO and rarely had to even use the light to confirm I was in but when I lifted it I did have to adjust the linkage to ensure it didn't pop out when I shifted in. The exploded diagram didn't clear this up and was curious.

As far as I understand it, if the sensors on the TC fail then the ECU will never see that the vehicle is in 4H or 4Lo and won't trigger the diff actuator to engage the front axles. Plus MTS , A-Track and Crawl Control would be disabled without a good 4WD signal. As far as I know...
