Thanks promed....so... is it because they are not as Beefy? Whats your reasoning? I am curious...the more and more i think about it the 265/70R17 coopers sound like a better idea than the 285s.

The reasoning for me would be that the 33" 285/70, when compared to the ~32" 265/70, will be heavier(lower mpgs), will offset your speedo/odo more, will require more trimming, and will not fit in the spare tire area if you are wanting to run a full-size spare.

I am going to buy the spidertrax spacers but i may wait to do full lift until I can buy some icons or something like yours.

Personally I think those should probably fit with your 1.5" front lift, but I really can't guarantee anything and you will probably still need to do most of the same trimming I did.

265/70/17s fit with no lift. I had them on my 04 2x4. I had no rubbing at all. Lots of members have them on thier non-lifted 4th gens.

I have an OME lift and with my Toyo Open Country A/Ts I rubbed a little bit with the 265/70 on my stock 17s. I just got new rims, 17x9 (same tires) and I had to take off my front mud flaps and I still rub a bit at fulll turn.

Did your OME lift push your front tires out, or in other words change the track width. Or is it just the construction of the tire its self.

I had Goodyear Wrangler AT/Ss 265/70/17s on my 04 and at full turn compressed I might have had 1/4 inch of clearance with the mud flap. Granted that is not much, and I know tire construction can take up that gap easy.

Is the OME a spacer lift? I ask because I am considering a leveling daystar spacer lift for my 08 SE. Maybe just a 1 inch lift in the front or if my funds are right a 2/1.

The Toyo Open Country A/Ts are on my short list of tires to replace the dunflops with when they are worn out and I don't want to worry about any rubbing.

I just assumed there would not be any problem since the 70s went on my 4x2 04 without any rubbing.

The only rubbing I may have had was the upper trackbar grease bushing is torn on one of the sides in the front. I believe it was caused by going into a corner hard and the slightly larger tire flexing and rubbing it. I found that when I had the tires replaced. (back to stock size on the 04)

The Old Man Emu lift is a suspension swap lift of around 3" and uses no spacers. It doesn't push out the width of the track at all. As you mentioned, it is probably just the construction of the tires. I can only speak of the Cooper Discoverer STT which has a rather aggressive sidewall and tread design that probably pushes it out a bit more than most. Also, the oem 4runner wheel (7.5") is at the minimum required wheel width for the STT which could easily increase installed tire's overall dimensions as well.

If I put 265/70/17 Cooper Discoverer STTs on with a 3/2 lift I am worried they wont fill out my wheel wells good enough because they are close to stock tires height. What do you think? Other than the wheel size do you think it will be aggressive

(ANYONE HAVE PICS WITH A 3/2 lift and 265/70/17s ?)

On the other hand I agree with your advice if I go with 285 it would not fit in my spare plus I think the 285s look like too much tire and would make my 17"s look small.

Maybe I should get some 18"s and put the 275/65/18 on?

Any thoughts?
 
You talked about spraying your wheel wells with rubberized coating. What stuff did you use? do you have to be careful when spraying not to get it on different parts? What do you exactly spray?

Are you still running your STT's? The spare still ok with the tight fit?

I am leaning on buying the factory 18" toyota wheels and STTs exactly like yours I just am going to go with the 3/2 cornfed though? Would you go with another wheel or you recommend me going with the toyota wheel? I like the factory look though!

I for sure think the 265/70R17 would look great, it is only 1/2" overall diameter less from the 275/65R18 and will also get better mpgs.

It was the same 3M underbody spray as in this link:

I just hit the plastic wheel well components and taped up large plastic trashbags around the exposed axle ends, shocks/springs, etc.

STTs are still holding up well with no complaints.

The OEM rim is only 7.5" wide, there are a lot of great looking aftermarket 18" wheels. My current favorite is the KMC XD below:

Dang I cringe every time I see you truck! Very nice Promed! I'm going the same route... still happy with them coopers? Also I've read the thread but did you mention that you tried a 285/65/18 and it didn't fit in the spare area?

Cooper are still holding up great. I have around 90k on my truck now and around 50k of those are with the Coopers. I personally have not tried the 285 up there, but if I remember right someone else on here did back before I started the thread. He had to jack it up and leave it an angle to make it fit I believe?

I have LT275/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler SA on mine and the spare juuuust fits in the spare tire location. Outside tire diameter is 32.2, not sure what the Coopers are.

How tight is your fit compared to my pictures of the spare on the first page of this thread?
 
I would say that even with pulling the spare tight against the hitch as its cranked up in place the tire just barely touches the sway bar.
Very similar to yours. Having a full sized spare was very important to me also. That's why I didn't go with 285s.
 
From looking at your pics the sway away bar is located towards the rear with the hitch. Since I have a V6 my bar is up front closer to the rear axle. Do you think that would give me 2-3 inches more room than yours? Also I thought if you went with 285's your only increasing the width not the diameter so shouldn't it fit like the 275 just hang a bit further down?
