So .. due to the fact that the "Maryland / Virginia / WV / D.C." thread seems to be lacking in activity, and how I doubt I could pay @Antman to assist me with my lift.


Does anyone have any suggestions into reputable shops in Maryland or at least within driving distance of the Baltimore area? :gossip:


Note: I have done some research, the only shop that I've been able to find is ATO.

I had Thompson Toyota install my lift on my 12 limited. I did coil overs in the front, new spring and shocks in the rear. Guy named Steve did it and he did a great job IMO.
 
I think I know a shop that could help you out.

They're located in Chantilly, Va. I hear the old gm that was there was a fantastic guy. I've also heard through the grapevine that they miss him and wish only the best. But watch out for a tech named [MENTION=99235]Scott@Hightech[/MENTION]. He's a total a$$hat.

Do you remember what the cost of $labor$ was? (Hourly Rate/Overall)
 
I just had my bilstein shocks put in by Foreign Auto Experts in elkridge, just off rt 1. They were great. Seemed to know 4runners well.

1.5 Hours from where I live in Harford County.

That's resonable. Sorry Duncmonsta I didn't realize your shop was that close.

Prepare to pay for northern va/DC costs. But also be prepared to have the truck done correctly the first time. And that includes the alignment.
 
Why do you think I wouldn't help? I will say that this time of year is very busy for me at work, and time off is hard to come by. But if we can work out a time....:juggle:

Also, getting Wheels and Tires at the same time I purchase the lift (Get it DONE). I haven't found a set of wheels I truly like yet. As for tires I will probably be going with Duratracs, Nitos, or Coopers.

Do you know their standard hourly rate? (I/A)

Nope. I'm just a representative now that I'm 2800 miles away. It used to be $120/hr. But I would contact them, mention you're from the forum, and get a quote. I thought they were still doing installation deals for T4R folks. But if Antman can help and you're not in a hurry, it'll be a helluva lot cheaper.

Agreed. I will still call and get a quote and mention T4R for sure.

As for Antman, I am in the process of ordering the parts but won't have the time (myself included) to do the install regardless of where I take it until late December early January. I work for the Ravens and this time of the year is quite busy.

I don't know if I remember all the details, but I know it was about 4 hours. I think it was 110 an hour and I had to pay for an alignment. I ran into a guy that had a lifted FJ... He seemed to like those guys.

Thank you. Now that I think about it, I have dealt with them once before when I was looking to purchase my 4R.
 
I want to add a comment here:
If I were going to get anything custom for my Toyota I would only go one place and that would be High Tech. I live five hours away and wouldn't think twice about driving up to get the work done. Concerning labor costs - Obviously you have never had much custom work done. Labor cost is almost unimportant if it is done correctly the first time. Let me ask you a question: would you rather get a "deal" with the chance of getting it done wrong or paying top dollar knowing you will get it done right with no issues?
Top quality labor is one of the things in life that is worth the money.

I used to be a VW fan boy. I had allot of work done at NGP Racing and understand you do get what you pay for.

However, that doesn't mean that if you pay allot that you'll always get quality work in return. I'm doing this more out of the satisfaction that users have been to these mechanics and can attest that they are worth the money.

I appreciate the feedback though in regards to High Tech.

But if it were anybody but Antman and several of the other members here, I would be concerned. I've read intelligent installs and posts by some guys here and I wouldn't hesitate to work with them. However, I would know from the beginning that a wrenching party is exactly what it is...a party. So as long as you can enjoy camaraderie between internet friends and accept that it wasn't done "professionally", then more power to ya.
 
If you're asking [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] for help, did he drop the restraining order charges against you? :lmao:
