Max tire size on stock 17"rim?

265/70/17. With a lift 275/70/17, this size also fits in the spare tire carrier. Another size that some have used and like 255/75/17 (works pretty well lift or no lift). With minor mods and a lift many use 285's.
The minor mods involve using wheel spacers or FJCruiser rims and some minimal trimming. Read this whole page and it'll outline both mods. http://www.top4runners.com/ja/2007/wheelspacers.html

Are these sizes safe regardless of tire type (M/T vs A/T vs All-season)? Little concerned spacially about 255/75/17 it is 32.05" tire after all. M/T tires have a large thread blocks and tire from one manufacturer can be as much as 1" different from another manufacturer in a same size.
For example D i c k Cepek FC-II on my friend's truck looks and measures on outside MUCH bigger than my Michelen Cross Terrains (both in same size 265/65/17)

i have only 265/70/17 ATs (i think 31.7?) on aftermarket 8.5 wheels, with my front lifted 2 in. & still had to move the inner plastic fender forward as far as it will go without cutting it & trim the very bottom tip of the bumper. if its done correctly, you cant even tell anything was modified. easy to do.taking this into account, i would imagine that in order to run 275s ,or anything 32 + in. requires a larger lift &/or more cutting & trimming would be involved, but since the #s reflect tire height & width, maybe a taller but narrower tire will work on the stock wheels w/o a lift.also, i dont believe i could of used the same 265/70s in an MT version without the lift on stock rims. however, i did have 265/70/17 GY SA on the stock rims with no lift & there was very minimal rubbing . so woodyc, the kind of tread, & tire brand your considering has to be taken into account also, not just the size. aftermarket wheels would add something else to the mix.

where was it rubbing? I'm thinking putting some new tires within a month and really like GY Duratrac's in 265/70/17 they little more aggresive than SA. Was planning for Firestone Destination M/T in 255/75/17 (32" tire) but they out of my list after I read your post :nono: My suspension is bone stock and I dont plan to lift my truck unill my xreas fails. I guess my next option is 245/75/17 (31.5")

yea, like you said , the duratracs have a more aggressive tread than the SA, & look good too! the rubbing i had with the SA on stock rims, w/o lift was on the inner black plastic fender. so i did have to move it forward, id say, as long as your willing to do that, the 265/70 should be fine. as far as the 255/75, you will have to ask some of the other guys who have had experience with them. like you, i cant queit see a taller tire fitting even if its narrower,(again tho, maybe just moving or cutting the inner fender helps) but believe it or not, i even think there was someone who used the 275s w/o lift, lots of trimming tho.

So I was wondering the same thing, except I want some all terrain tires, they look a little beefier. Any suggestions? I have a 03 sr5.. thanks!

I have a stock 03' V8 SE and have had Bridgstone Revos on for 50k miles and the are still working great! I do a lot of towing and freeway driving in the summer with Tahoe trips in the winter. These tires have worked so well every application. Definately go Revo!
Plus they are'nt loud on the road and have awesome tread. Hard to have this combo. FYI:guitar3:
