You will hear a lot of mixed opinions on this when it comes to internal engine mods. I would absolutely have the heads ported and polished and gasket matched to the exhaust but that is about as much as I would recommend. If you don't already have the URD fuel mods I would also recommend that you get the 7th injector fuel upgrade. That will put you at 250 to the wheels or 300 at the crank.

When I first got the truck, toyota told me that the 7th injector causes problems. Is this true? what kind of problems could it possibly create?

Supercharging without doing the fuel upgrades (i.e. URD 7th injector) can cause problems. Depending on what year you have and whether or not you have an EGR valve, the URD 6 injector kit may be better for you. The stock fuel pump and injectors cannot always keep up with the increased air that the SC delivers (especially when you gun it). When you can't provide enough fuel, the engine will start pinging and that can/will ruin the engine. So basically, it's exactly the opposite of what your dealership told you.

I'm sure you will be skeptical since I'm just a guy on the internet and I'm contradicting what the dealership told you, but I assure you, people don't spend $hundreds$ on the URD stuff to damage their engine, they do it to protect the engine (and increase HP even further). If you're unsure, ask the dealership how the stock fuel system can possibly keep up with the boost that the SC creates. If they tell you it can, call URD and see what they have to say about it.

In the meantime, don't let the engine lug and listen for pinging so you can shift gears or let off the gas when you hear it.

Do the work to the heads, possibly even cams. Internal mods really arent necessary unless you are really trying to push the power envelope. Look for a user "Gadget" here or on Yotatech and he can give you a lot of answers. The URD 7th injector kit fixes the Lean issue with the original TRD set-up. Can also go with the 2.2 pulley to get a little more boost. Larger injectors etc. If you call URD they are very helpfull and may be able to guide you with more detail.

thanks again for the suggestions. I thought it was different. Mine is a 1996. I looked at the TRD website and they only go back to the year 2000.

They go back further and have stuff for the 5VZFE and the 2.7L. What I strongly suggest is giving them a call and asking for some advice.

I just went through a complete rebuild of my 5vz and had my supercharger totally rebuilt a Highspeed Labs in MO. I went back and forth about internal engine mods and eventually decided to stay pretty close to stock internally with a really good machine shop doing the work and then had my supercharger totally gone through including impeller re-coating. I am running a URD 7th injector and 2.2 pulley and couldn't be happier. how many miles on your supercharger? Gray or Black? What are you looking to accomplish power wise? 5speed or Auto trans? Off Road or mostly looking to embarrass camaro's? Let us know and we can help a little more

I didn't even bolt my supercharger up until I had ordered the URD 7th fuel upgrade. The Supercharger, fuel upgrade, smaller pulley, full exhaust, and valve body upgrade makes the vehicle much much more fun and enjoyable to drive.

hey rockdawg. my supercharger probably has 100000 on it, (but I've never gone crazy on it), black supercharger, i wan't to occasionally embarrass a camero (although I love destroying 4.0 L jeeps for some reason), 5 speed of course, I go offroading too. I'd like a lot of power. would it help with pulling a boat? Thanks for your advice and help.

Replied to your PM. I will pull a boat of reasonable size compared to the Truck. I'm about to pull a trailer to the lake this weekend that is going to tip the scales at about 1300lbs. I will let you know how things go. :hello:

Well a quick update. Went to the lake over the long weekend and pulled a 12 foot trailer with a 100 gal Fuel Cell, lots of wood and a bunch of camping equipment. We estimated that the trailer all told weighted in between 1300 and 1500 lbs. We drove 150 miles and had an elevation change of +2000 feet in elevation. I filled up right before we left and gassed again right before the lake and by hand calculation I was getting 15.4 miles per gallon. Not to shabby all things considered. I had no problem pulling the hills or keeping up with the rest of my buddy's and their truck with V8's and a powerstorke. Granted the powerstorke was pulling almost 18,000 lbs LOL. NO way I was pulling that. But never heated up and did great. Hope this helps as you keep moving forward on your project.
