MB72s on 285/70/17 Duratracs

Hello family! I'm going to pull the trigger on either Salsa Red or Magnetic Gray Trail this weekend. And given I typically have stuff in my garage for mods before the new ride is even in the driveway, I'd like have have some wheels ready to go.

It's either the Mojaves or MB72s...but I like that the MBs are a half inch wider as I probably won't need to run spacers to achieve the stance I'm going for.

Question is, with no lift, will MB72s and 285 Duratracs rub my ego away? I don't mind doing front fender cutting like I did on the old Tacoma...but given wifey will drive this thing too, I don't want her freaking out when the sweet sounds of rubbage are taking place. I'd consider BFG AT's in 275/70/17 if that step down in height/width would do the trick.

I just installed duratrac 285/70/17 on my trail edition with stock wheels. I did the front fender mod (search front fender mod) which took me all of 2 minutes. I did have a little bit of rubbing on the drivers side mud flap only when in a braking left turn. I had an alignment done and had them add caster (move wheel forward) and then no rubbing at all.

Thanks. Sounds like with no lift the MB72s and 285s will probably lead to serious rubbing if you have rubbing on the stock wheels (given the MBs are 8.5" wide and offset). I may have to consider staying with 265s or give 275s a try...

Check out recent pics of my truck. I have MB72's with stock Duratracs. I think 285's look and function better with a little lift.

I think the MB72's are a hell of a deal. And I believe they are almost identical to the Mojave's.

Ummmmm, haha we are going to have nearly identical trucks rolling around Ocean Parkway! I got my deal done today at Westbury Toyota...they have a 12' in Black but I really wanted either Silver or Grey (impartial to either). So I have money down and the dealer is locating me a car.

In no time at all I'll have my current Thule rack on the top, a defiant bar with some Hella black magics, the MB72s, and I need some step bars so the kids can get in the truck...so I have to see what sliders are out there that would work well. The ones you have look like they will do the job.

I'm in Mineola and spend as much as time as possible surfing and fishing (and family beach time) down at RM and FINS. Curious to see what state 4x4 fishing access will look like this year with all the Sandy devastation, but have the empire pass as a back up.

I have many questions, but will do some homework on this site before I blow up your PM inbox.

Really looking forward to this truck. Had an 03' Tacoma which was great, and have been driving an 05' Pathfinder SE-Off Road since. Nice SUV, but this 4 Runner is definitely a step up with respect to it's off roadability. Can't wait.
